Counter-Strike Skins Hoedown
Custom skins, models, sprites and sounds are no doubt a large part of the CS community and almost everyone has downloaded or used them at one point. So I've put together a brief list of sites that offer quality skins, models, sprites and the like for download. Let's get started:
- CS-Nation: Arguably the most popular Counter-Strike site around also has one of the best skin archives... well, around. The CSN Skin of the Day section has skins/models for all of the weapons in Counter-Strike, including player models and sprites. Most of the skins, models, and sprites at CSN are top notch even though there are a few sub par ones. Nevertheless, if you're looking to customise your CS with some of nicest weapon and player skins available, give CSN a look.
- Clan Dead Goat Gun Shop: One of the most popular CS skin and model sites in the community is the CDG Gun Shop. Home to some of the greatest models ever made, the Gun Shop has a large collection of replacements for all of the weapons in Counter-Strike. As the name implies, the Gun Shop contains only weapon skins, there are no player models. But they do have a few sounds and sprites you can download.
- Counter-Strike Sprites: Since Tragic Sprites no longer exists, Counter-Strike Sprites is here to fill the void, not only do they have any sprite you'd possibly need to customise your CS hud, they also have tutorials, kits, sprite tools and various packs available for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
- Counter Strikes Home: CSH is a German site so you probably won't be going to read the news - unless you can read German. I really like this site though, it has almost everything you could want: weapon models and sounds, player models and sounds, a bunch of other sounds and lots of sprites. CSH is an all around great site for customising your CS, they even have a Homer Simpson hostage model! Oh, joy!
- Games-Fusion: Known around the CS community for their 'Fusion Packs' - replacement packs that customise almost every aspect of Counter-Strike. But you can't download these packs without signing up for a membership to the site, which, you guessed, costs money. It's shameful that Games-Fusion is exploiting other people's work to make money. Even so, Games-Fusion has a nice selection of models and skins you can download for free. There aren't any player skins available for free download though, so you'll just have to find those elsewhere.
- CS Realism Update: If you're too lazy to download each individual sound, sprite and model, you might want to take a peek at the CS Realism Update by Martin [NL] and Devlin. This pack does pretty much the same thing as the Games-Fusion ones, but this is free for download and has already been downloaded 100,000 times. The site has screenshots for every sprite and model, so you can see what you're getting before actually downloading. All in all, it's a great package.
That's all folks. If there are any other good sites you know please let me know and I'll add them to this article.
