It seems to me that the UK CS scene is on the UP.
I'm at university so have been completely inactive from CS recently, but I still follow the progress made on the relevant websites, and sometimes IRC. Basically I enjoy the competition, and spectating a game I used to play a lot for about four years.
So, from a somewhat outsiders POV, here are a few reasons why I think things are improving:
I feel the top clans are proving themselves more:
- CTX have become a very good clan by UK standards, and the first that will properly challenge lc in CSGN for quite some time. There are also others that have endured and could prove a challenge: Forsaken and Choke, perhaps Caution.
- Lastchance and Caution have both recently had good games against Ocrana. When I check the SK website, I see that Ocrana are demolishing the top German teams. Drake are by no means breezing the CSGN premiership, and I expect them to lose to both ctx and lc.
- 4K seemed to have finally picked their form up, and have already done enough for me at WEG as long as they don’t get wiped by NoA. Pity Harriman had to leave, GL Snajdan.
- Sometime ago the Team-UK boys did the ‘impossible’ and beat the Swedes. I feel this is a great improvement on what would have happened about a year ago.
CSGN has been improved dramatically:
- We are now seeing much more competition and activity in CSGN with the removal of the ‘we are gay card’. With the amount of results coming in each week the league can start to be respected once more.
- Once again I feel the respectability of the clans, especially in the premiership and division one, has risen. This is due to higher skill levels and the fact they have been around for sometime. Instead of clans that will fold in two weeks we have clans like Unicon, Played, Ants, Thk, Lanimals, Carbine, in there place that were not competing in this way before. Even when I look down the leagues I see talent and ‘newer’ people making a name for themselves – Calypso, Naughty, Turtlesports, there are more. I feel this just makes the scene deeper and healthier.
- The introduction of the new anti-cheat seems to be working well and is crucial to the development of the league.
Attitudes and websites:
- Maybe it’s just me, but UKT seems to be less about flaming these days and more about enjoying the game and the up and coming clans.
- UKCT has developed into a widely used website that provides excellent coverage from the likes of Realfire and Geo, and of course the old schoolers such as pie. It doesn’t just report on clans that will fold in two weeks these days. The demo thing is a great idea to.
- There seems to be less clans just forming and folding. Clans seem to be sticking around longer at the moment.
Perhaps I don’t know what I’m talking about, I have been inactive for quite some time. It just seems as if things are on the up. Keep it up ;)

Speaking on behalf of choke, we are definitely finding a lot less animosity between teams, something that’s always played a big part in UK CS. Friends have been made in teams like caution, landed and played to name but a few. There’s a feeling of mutual respect among the top10/20 UK teams on the whole, which was never there before.
CSGN is leading the way in online competition, due to the effort the likes of Obsidian is putting into the league in regard to team selection and his anti cheat work. Great work CSGN.
There are still a few teams out there who insist on remaining poor sports with even poorer attitudes, mentioning no names. However these seem easier to handle now in light of the improvement with so many other teams.
I still say we are missing a “UKT” style LAN series which I feel did so much for the scene back in the day, but aside from that, I does appear quite positive for once.
Long may it continue?
Ps: eks you blatantly used ms word mate, that’s far to perfect grammatically and spelling wise to be free text ;o) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

The UK/IE cup seems to have gone downhill from past times, Kirt seems to be a bit of a wildcard when it comes to admins, the games we have arranged with other teams have some how been forced to play on a different day and there doesnt seem to be any reason for this. there has been word of there being HLTV TsN scorebot etc and none of this has been done by CB. so i think the people over @ CB need to up their game to provide the coverage that they are saying they have.
other than that gl and hf everyone! [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

(2003 version is an absolute dog, must be said)
It's been good to see a more chilled atmosphere about the scene. How long it lasts, is anyone's guess... [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Agree with what Katori said that a lot of the 2nd tier teams have more of a friendly rivalry going now. Still think there is a huge gap between the lower/mid div1 teams and the top div1/prem teams in CSGN that will take some time to close.
One thing to note though is to whether these will change over to a lan format, not whether teams are capable but will they actually attend or not. Choke, CAu, synergy, SCEE havent attend lans in quite some time, mainly because most of them seem to play for pure enjoyment rather than competition and have commitments elsewhere that keep them from lanning. Other teams like uC and ForsakeN have kept to their "home" lans nearby. Will be interesting to see something like ESWC quals and as to how many UK teams make the effort to attend. As regards to 4kings not playing on-line. Its quite clearly a circular arguement. If they played online more, it would have been less of an "event" and as such wilzo might not have cheated. However, because they dont play online so much he felt the need to do so, which has in turn probablay put them off playing online ever again :) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

However looking at the uk scene now. Not much was expected of 4k in Korea/China, no one thought team-uk would make the final of the nations cup and no one thought that other clans apart from 4k and TAG could compete nationally.
With the pressure off its allowed many clans to grow and therefore improve, whilst gaining a reputation for being good ane because the level is so close between these clans everything has stabalised. Hopefully these clans will continue to improve and compete at higher levels. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I've always read UKT, sometimes on a daily basis, but never before had the motivation to actually sign up and add my own little comment, that is, until i read this column.
Finally, a positive attitude towards to the Uk scene :D There has definatly been considerable improvement over the past couple of months, it seems to be getting better every week :)

I no longer care! Players clans can do whatever they wish. I very rarely play now and we're just seeing out the current season as SCEE never have and never will just leave a league mid-season and fold. Waiting for an appropriate time.
You may have noticed less comments on here from me and less appearances on IRC, you may have not :D
The games lost its magic for me, the community no longer inspires or irritates me. Time to bow out? Nah just time to fvck off!

must have took an awefull long time and much delegation to come to that conclusion.
Do you care to be more precise what do you disagree about? That clans are improving? That CSGN is improving?
Or is it attitudes of people improving? i must say your not a shining star example of that last point but on general i do agree with all 3. unfortunatly tho we will allways have the bad seeds such as yourself wont we.
And considering you disagree, why dont you do anything about it instead of sitting on your arse attempting to be cool on UKT? People like me and jamie have spent nearlly 3 years of our own time dedicated to improving UK/CS for absolutly no gain (infact a cost) of our own.
