The Cyberathlete Professional League's World Tour stop for the UK has finally come upon us and there seems to be no team from the UK that can be easily said to do anything for its own nation's pride.
Most recently, 4Kings announced that their new 5th player is Natu from Finland (apologies if I am mistaken). Now while this may come as a good thing for the royalty boys, with picking up a former professional gamer to prepare them for the upcoming stop, the other side to this sword is that 4K is now really and truly an international squad. 4Kings now have more players from outside their home-nation than NoA, the world's first est. int'l squad, did of theirs. It is no longer a UK team, but really just a professional team with its original decaying roots in England.
What can positive are said about the potency of the UK's CS scene. As Richard 'Myers' Millington pointed out, the UK has had even more opportunities and sponsorship interests floating around for teams to take full advantage of; and yet there really aren't any respective teams that any of us can say that they'll definitely shine at perhaps the one LAN in the next year that will utterly set the tone in this listless community. Everyone knew for a long time, that the WT was going to have a stop here. A part from the venue and prize purse, it has been a milestone which all higher-tier teams really should've been looking forward to. It comes at an excellent time, starting right before most colleges/universities commence their year, giving everyone the chance to prove themselves one final time before the stream of endless excuses about distractions returns. It's been a long, bright summer, so who is there to make the UK fans proud.
I am not a huge follower of the UK CS scene. I would not say that I check the sites of all teams very often, or that I have a keener interest on a place I lived for many years, as oppose to another one. I pay a lot of attention to the amateur side of things, which sadly seems to be where many of the main contenders from the UK are bound to fall.
England has got sides such as Choke, Landed, CSGN (if the 4 not to ATR have done anything), All the Rage, ctx and foremost famous, c4u. There is a gross amount of talented players out there from teams that have recently broken up to players that have simply left due to overwhelming amounts of immature/unsubstantiated cheating accusations. Why not make this time to show to the globe what the UK has to offer. A team that performed well here would greatly propel the attitudes of both sponsors and tournament organizers alike. This could ignite systems and circles of people to come together to better it.
Or, we could make a hash of the opportunity that has nicely been plotted in front of us, with a large cash purse for both male and female gaming.
What's it gonna be?

The teams that apply wont be accepted as there are definitely going to be better european sides wanting in, such as SK, mouz etc.
I don't see any good clans coming up to replace them either, we just don't care as much about cs as the other countries in europe. Any reason cpl uk has less prize money than the other stops?! [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

guess I really meant that they arel like NoA in not having a greater amt in terms of home-country players that a normal team, would. With Red and Goodfella, it was a minority, now, natu gfella and element make up the majority, hence not really a uk side and maybe not even able to qualify for ESWC anymore...
Thats a good point you make about the prize purse, but at the same time, I am not sure if all the other stops have had a Women's Tournament, but I could be wrong.
Thats not really true though venomous. You can't generalise on such a mass scale like that. The fact of the matter is, I would think that really there is a lack of LANs/Leagues in the UK that are as high of a scale as those in the rest of Europe. The UK also isn't as involved in the EPS/ESL/CB leagues as many german teams are, eg the new and former, sk.ger.
I don't like digging in, but the fact that say, America has just one cafe of erm -- www.xtremenetworx.com in a random city, and yet the community was given Unicon...it was a trying effort by unicon, but too small of a place to host say, the CSGN LAN etc. Leagues are also just not really taken seriously, and if you go to an i-series, its actually more expensive than getting a flight to barcelona for a weekend...
