It’s certainly been a while since I posted anything on UKTerrorist. Roughly 14 months I think, it’s been a shame to see it go to waste without good pre-uni newsies to fill the void.
Fortunately this post isn’t about the demise of UKTerrorist, that’s far too much of a depressing topic. We all remember how it used to be the central focus of the scene and the banter we used to enjoy. Instead this is a post about a challenge I’m undertaking in February.
This February I will be cycling across Kenya on behalf of Computer Aid International to try and raise enough money to equip one school in the country with a PC lab. This PC lab will ensure hundreds of children every year will finally receive a decent education. It’s going to be a very gruelling challenge, 400km to cover in 5 days, including a climb up Mount Kenya, which sounds a bit hilly.
I’m thus hoping that some of the old UKT readers and LAN attendees will be willing to help me out. As well as several months of hard training, I need to raise £2500. So if any of you 2001 – 2005 UKT readers are still out there, I’m asking you to help me by donating money to the cause on my page www.justgiving.com/richard2007. Please use the Gift Aid option, as that will add about 28% to your donation.
My thanks in advance to anyone that is able to contribute.
More information at: http://www.computeraid.org/kenya%20challenge.htm.
On another note, it would be great to hear from anyone else still around.
Regards,
Myers
P.s. Sorry if I ever disqualified your team from a LAN tournament.

If it were for saving third world country children then it would be worth it. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Seems like you're doing well these days.
There are many charities which have the precise objective you describe, so please do give generously to them. It is vital that children in 3rd world countries have the necessities (food, clean water, clothing, shelter). Charities which work towards this goal are great and I wouldn’t try to imitate the work they do.
What I am trying to do is something different, which is to help hundreds of children every year receive a decent education. A single well educated child has unlimited potential and opportunities in this world, which has to be among the greatest gifts you can do anything. Well multiply that by hundreds of times every year, and that’s what I’m trying to achieve.
Also any one of these children might start their own company, generate revenue, stimulate the economy and subsequently help those in their region out of poverty.
Even if not, you're still helping to provide these children with a better future. Rather than prolongling their struggles to survive. This has to be a good cause. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I think you have me mistaken for 'w1cked', I am in fact 'w1nn3r' from the good old cs.radio days.
I guess you can see it as something that will *eventually* help them survive but I know if I had a choice for charity events I would certainly do the one that directly gets money to the dying children in some of these countries.
But obviously if all these kids initially had decent education then we wouldn't have 'third world countries' in the first place. So I see you are trying to attack the problem at the core.
Good luck with it and watch out for those nasty bugs. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
