4k-radio Interview

Over the last 6 months online-gaming radio has really started to take off. I took some time out of my tight schedule and decided to catch up with Oscar and Mashton from 4k-radio to see what was going on:

For those of you that don't know you, tell us a little bit about yourselves and how 4k-radio came about? (Mashton was coming too but he's asleep I'm told)

[4k^Oscar] - We are an online radio station that was first cs.radio then after 1 gline (Qnet shut it down in other words) we moved to eradio then with a few problems with a manager and the losing of a channel we managed to get cs.radio un glined where we started up shop again and then when i-es moved to 4k we decided with 4kings to merge and become the massive 4k.radio

We commentate on matches from all games, we are currently bringing in new DJs to cope with the various games there are, we also do pranks and play the funky tunes.

Last night 4k-r became the biggest radio station on Quakenet, touched over 600 idlers and a similar number of listeners. What do you think sets 4k-radio apart from the rest?

[4k^Oscar] - We have worked really hard over the last few months to find out what brings and keeps listeners, and with hours of meetings and phone calls we have found the right mix it seems to please everyone.

Just a quick question, are there different streams for broadband and 56k users?

[4k^Oscar] - At the moment we stream at 56k basically because of the amount of listeners, we would run out of bandwidth otherwise especially last night.

What do you see the role of online-gaming radio going in the future and what areas would you like to expand into?

[4k^Oscar] - We would like to be in a position to do live broadcasting from every pro lan that goes on over the world, and to get a main fm band or dab frequency, but as with everything it takes time. We are moving towards that though with everyday.

[4k^Oscar] - Basically I have to thank www.4k-gaming.co.uk, #4k-gaming for there continued support over the last few months and also to lithium for always being there when we need a relay server set up :) We have set up a donation payment scheme to help us with running costs, also this should help us to get to the lans to see the people.
