Pro Gaming vs Realism

In light of the recent attacks on America and the consequent response to this by the CPL and WCG, Hoony (challenge.world) has written a short article debating whether Counter-Strike is actually an appropriate game to be promoting 'Pro Gaming':

"... All of which points to what appears to be an emerging conflict between the goals of "pro-gaming" and the trend of modern computer games to become more and more realistic. At least with the more "arcade" style of graphics it could be argued that the game visuals were "cartoony" and not to be taken seriously.

But when we start to see high-polygon player models with realistic movements, detailed faces, and multiple "hit boxes", when we begin to see individual death animations depending on where they were shot, then multiplayer gaming morphs somehow into something resembling a gruesome, interactive snuff movie, rather than a computer game celebrating team-play and individual skill..."
