FragNation have a nice interview with the creators of the Anti-Cheat software, PunkBuster. The interview goes into some length about Valve's new, upcoming anti-cheat technology and their attitude towards the PB team. Here's an extract:FN: We all know that cheating is a problem, and it will be forever. Do you think Valve is wasting their time on a three year old game that, along with the title of most played, holds the title of having the most cheaters? It's very worthy of your time - some interesting points are made. PB: Valve is still generating tremendous revenue on their Half-Life franchise. It would seem to be in their best interest to do whatever they can to keep that cash cow chewing grass. They never told me why they ignored the outcries of so many of their customers over the past year or so to support our popular and proven approach. But, no, to answer your question directly, I don't think channeling resources to fight cheating is a waste of time at all and I practice what I preach. I believe that organized online Half-Life and Counter-Strike would be virtually cheat free right now if Valve had chosen to work with us. Valve is a corporation in a capitalistic society, their job is to make money and they seem to have been very good at that over the past few years.
