CPL Summer Event - CS: Condition Zero

Posted by Blitz at 09:27 13/2/2002.

The CPL have updated with some news regarding their summer event this year. It'll take place in July and the primary game will be none other than CS: Condition Zero, with Day of Defeat being the focus of the secondary tournament. Here's a snippet of the statement:
"The five-day CPL Summer Championship event will take place Saturday, July 13 to Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, in downtown Dallas, Texas.

The primary tournament game will be Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, currently being co-developed by Gearbox Software (www.gearboxsoftware.com) and Valve, LLC (www.valvesoftware.com). Condition Zero extends the award-winning Counter-Strike multiplayer game with new maps and weapons, while simultaneously introducing new technologies, an extensive single player campaign, and cooperative play.

Condition Zero will include the latest version of the number-one online action game, Counter-Strike, which will be updated to include some of the weapons, characters, scenarios and technology developed for Condition Zero. Total cash prizes for the tournament will be $100,000. Complete tournament rules will be released March 15, 2002. For more information on Condition Zero visit www.cs-conditionzero.com"

Great, and now cs:cz has been delayed as well, doesnt really give players much chance to adapt if they change the gameplay much, also, why are valve bothering with cs1.4 and other versions now, if they know that the current version of cs will just be terminated on the release of cs:cz? Since not everyone will buy CZ, the team needs to bother with releasing 1.4 and future versions so that the CS and CZ communities will still be able to play with each other. But none of the work they are doing will be worth it unless the anti-cheat works. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I think CS:CZ will be another 'CS Retail' and the online part of it will be available as a free download so that all current players can continue playing it. I wouldnt expect too many changes until CS2 is released and everyone has to buy that. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
