Nocturne kick off EC campaign!

Posted by Gattuso at 00:32 11/3/2002.

Nocturne finally got their first two Clanbase Eurocup games underway tonight with a not so exciting forfeit win over Spaniards DTZ and victory over dNC in an exciting game.

On Dust2 Nocturne managed to win 8-4 as T. However dNC pulled it back to 7-5 when it was their turn to be T’s. A close score of 13-11 set the scene for a tense second game on Aztec. Nocturne managed to win 8-4 as CT and dNC failed to stop Nocturne as T which lead to a 12-0 victory.

The final score of the game however was 27-15 because only the 6 rounds noc won before dNC had to leave were counted. Here is what Mike had to say about the game:

Gattuso: How do you think the game went?
Mike: On a whole the game went really well. It was a really close game right from the start with dNC taking the early lead. Towards the end of the first half of dust2 we managed to pick some players off with awps and got a lot of rounds by rushing where they were weak. As CT we won the pistol round which boosted our confidence, they played v well after that though and managed to get 7 after losing first round. Aztec was pretty straight forward but they had some nice rushes as T which confused us :(

Gattuso: What has changed since your defeat to dNC at PS2002?
Mike: We tried some new tactics, we felt we were too weak at bombsite a on dust2, seeing as we used to have 2 at b. we recruited a new member, "ajam" who played really well and kept us in the game numerous times. dNC had also lost a game before playing us so maybe their confidence wasn’t 100%? We also lost a member too, as most people know :p.

Gattuso: Do you think you can make the play-offs?
Mike: haha, it will be very hard :) loooads of great clans still left to play. If we can sort a few problems out on certain maps then maybe, if we do it will be v close :p

Gattuso: Thanks for your time, good luck!

Demos can be found over at nocuk.org due to Clanbase being down.

Wasnt 12-0 as T, we got to 5-0 which meant we couldnt lose/draw so dNC left cos the game was 50mins late and they had work/school in the morning. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I know I'm involved with .dNC amd I'm not trying to start a flame war [now the but] but...
we see yet again a CS team which doesn't perform well on a Lan perform brilliantly online. I'm not saying noc cheat but it is an interesting point. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

its quite simple to explain really, afaik, all of dNC are on 64k ISDN? and the fact they live near a LAN cafe gives them an advantage for playing at LAN, ive even heard dNC members saying they suck online but seem to do good on LAN, to me it seems noc arent amazing online, but dNC are just worse online?
maybe with the upgrade in connection quality at LAN, and the fact they play at LAN a lot means it gives them a much bigger advtange at LAN.
from what i could see nocs team was quite different from the one they had at LAN, with the addition of SaV and Ajam.
so in the end its not that suprising noc come out on top this time round. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

like iron says, maybe dNC are just worse online.

Noc and dNC are both great clans, and no doubt each could beat the other, on their day. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Hehe yeh meglome your not starting a flame war but your doing exactly that, s'ok you put a disclaimer which makes everything ok...

The team was different and we were a lot more prepared having played dNC on dust2 and having seen demos of their aztec play vs ui, we had a lot more strats.

I think we also had the advantage starting out as T, becos if you can win that half you knock the oppositions confidence right down. You should know this as it was exactly what happened at PS2002, we lost 8-4 as CT, exact score and we lost the first round as T we werent in any frame of mind to play to win. But fair to dNC they came back at us but we managed to scramble 2 more rounds to stay in the lead, only by 2 mind so aztec was well open.

After the first 3 rounds of CT I thought it was allover, PS2002 allover again but luckily when we got guns we were able to get back in it. After watching the ui demo knew exactly what you did on bridge area and that you mainly attacked B, so could easily adjust to this. Now only needing 4 as T and winning the 1st round meant it was allover quickly.

Ah well the preperation and practice doesnt even matter cos by the 'Official Laws of CS' you arent allowed to beat a clan online who you lost to on LAN, so were obviously cheaters.

And don't forgot demos (HLTV + In-Eyes) available at www.nocuk.org [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I think noc put in more work for this game and they won it, just like dNC put in more work for the ps2002 game and they won it.
Also they got the best damm player ever in their clan so like how could they lose?

The thing people are forgetting here, is both teams are good teams. Just cause of 1 map on lan, does not mean 1 team is better than another. Lose pistol rounds, and u can lose the map on a lan. If there were tournaments every week world wide, even thyought NiP are the best, they wouldnt win every game. It's like football, United wont win every game. Maybe Noc had a bad day on the lan, and dNC had a bad day yesterday. The lan didnt prove 1 team was better, but beat them on the day, the same occured yesterday.
Both are v good teams, it was an enjoyable game to watch. Gl to both in the rest of their EC campaigns. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

1. Clans can improve a lot if they work hard or get worse if they dont put as much effort in.
2. Many factors such as the map, luck, fatigue can affect the outcome of games.

I know noc have a very strong will to be top, and if everything goes right they can take down many top clans. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

If you watch the demos or speak to any noc players about the game you will find out that we made quite a few mistakes which prevented us from performing "brilliantly online". [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

We played 1 week of clans that cheated and raped us :(

We were supposed to play I-eS as preperation, for noc, but we were told last minute that we had Infernum in EC. So we got no practice, as usual :/ [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

We still played s*** though, we should of checked the HLTV demos of noc's LAN games but we didnt get time, and we underperformed on the day.
We could of gone into dnc cafe to play on LAN but we didnt bother, mainly down to Sev/Me/Psyo not wanting to which didnt help either... We are our own worst enemy :( [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Just because dNC beat Noc on LAN, doesn't mean that dNC will always beat Noc. Clans get better, clans get worse, fact of life. Some people might explain away the defeat as Noc working hard and dNC not doing a tap. That's a cop out. Putting in the work and analysing your opponents weaknesses is what good clans do. I'm well impressed with Noc's attitude, instead of going "oh well dNC beat us on LAN, lets not bother with EC", they fixed all the holes in their play from PS 2002 and whacked dNC upside the a55 good and proper, congratulations [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

In reply to Ironz0r, dNC don't play as a team on LAN as often as you might think. Personally I've only played 2 dNC matches on LAN (excluding competition events such as Lan Arena). The others have played more but nowhere near as often as they play online.

Ireland's telecommunications infrastructure certainly doesn't do us any favours, with 40 choke on public server and spikes to 25 or so in matches, but I heard nobody in dNC complain about lag in the match so I presume it wasn't too bad [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

LAN is the ONLY place to judge a good clan, theres way too many variables online.

Noc may be a good lan clan, but they can never claim to be skilled on LAN. Their overall results and LAN track recrd is extremely poor vs top opposition.

If any of the top 20 scandinavian clans were at ps2002 they would have walked it. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Firstly, alias' poster...prolly 2-faced as f*** on irc/in person.

Name a UK clan who has better LAN record...Id say Nocturne is pretty average along with most UK teams.

"If any of the top 20 scandinavian clans were at ps2002 they would have walked it." - And we'd prolly walk the top LAN in China....your point? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
