Hackers in CS?!?

Posted by alpha at 19:21 25/3/2001.

A troublesome teenage CS player, who goes by the name of "Mortin", was busted recently for uploading 254 megabytes of the latest version of Counter-Strike, to a web page which was normally capped at 5MB! Over 7,000 people tried to download from this web page, which caused a major jam for the host of the site. This meant that business domains and other personal sites were slowed incredibly. The student, whose name was not released pending charges, uploaded 245 megabytes of the latest version of "Counter-strike," FDLE officials said. The upload accounted for about 50 times the storage space his Web page was designed to handle.

Network Tallahassee's bandwidth was taken up by so many people trying to download the game, Merrick said, that clients - at least 7,000 - with personal Web pages were unable to maneuver over the Internet. Business domains were slowed but otherwise not affected, Merrick said.
