Today Obsidian, one of the directors for CSGN, has released a statement regarding the CSGN OpenCup. Unfortunately the online to LAN pay-to-play cup has been cancelled due to a lack of interest.Unfortunately, after months of hard work, we are going to have to cancel the CSGN OpenCup. The lack of interest has come as a shock after the initial sign ups. I think it’s a shame that there are so few clans that are willing to play CS at a more professional level. It's thought there were little over 30 sign ups when the expected was double that. He went on to say the free online league will go head, with the teams who did pay receiving automatic places in a division. The league has attracted over 140 signs ups with space for only 60.All current signups will be notified, and their cheques destroyed/returned during this week.

The league will be run, and we will be focusing on the more "able" clans at first. After this we will continue to stuff the gap between "pro" clans and lesser clans with competitions which mix them all up with one another.
Sorry again,

People just seem to think prizes come from sponsors as easy as 1,2 3. I worked and emailed and rang and worked some more on the site, servers and LAN agreements. To have it thrown back in your face is demoralising and makes it all seem so pointless.

"so basically they are taking the money what people paid in order to attend the LAN, and instead of giving them that, they are giving them an automatic place in a division?... arent they lucky!!!"
No - they get their cheque returned or destoryed (which ever is easiet for them), and a placement in the league for showing willing to participate.
thats all :) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Ok it was a bit harsh, Obsidian whatever his name is, well done its a nice thing to do ok.. But comon your saying "I think it’s a shame that there are so few clans that are willing to play CS at a more professional level".. Thats bull s***, look how many ppl who got interested in UKT. I think that to run any type of event like this you need recognition like the VGA has. So ul thats all.
And dont call me neb, my name isnt neb, never was and never will be. Fools. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I did my best to make it as well organised etc. as i could. Regarding the publicity statement. UKT, the-UKCSA and no-powerups all posted about it. And Radio.1 were also interested in coverage.
"...Nah, no one wants to pay to play in some n00b competition thats all. CPL is free and plenty of people play in it...."
I would say the obvious "why dunt u organise it blabla" but that wont allow the cup to run. I just couldn't understand why clans couldn't afford £2/player for a chance to win much much more. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I dunt understand when you try and do something nice - people get angry at you. I have been talking to some people this morning, and sponsors - and the possibility of cancelling the whole project is now very real.

Me and obsidian speant a hell of a lot of our own time trying to contribute to the cs community only to have it thrown back in our face by people like N38.
Personally i dont know if im going to be carrying on with CSGN myself considering the generall attitude of some people disgusts me. im sure obsidian will, he has more patience than me.
another point, BYOC sucks. but the fact is i NEVER, neither me or obsidian confirmed that it was DEFINATLY BYOC. The event we were going to go to was being 'developed'. if it turned out that it was definatly we could have changed the final to possibly a VGA center. to late now tho.
Another thing, as regards to 'configgers'. We cannot afford to take 64 clans to a lan. its simply not feasable so we had to have qualifiers online. All games were on adminmod/wwcl servers with an admin & hltv demos. Im sure if some team was configging it would have been picked up quite easily. if the opponant can see it obviously the admin could.

Perhaps i should change my statement to read:
"I think it’s a shame that there are so few who clans willing to support CSGN to provide a competitive and professional competition, after the initial interest and backing."
Its probabaly because we're new, "n00b" like, and generally frowned upon, but i for one don't want to give up yet and ylet you guys get the better of me :) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
