"Gryff trust him, the V-Source-Engine is a modified Havok Game Dynamics Engine."

No it's not, it just has elements taken from Havok's physics engine (very heavily modified). The AI, a lot of the physics etc. are all independant and were built in-house, and the programming itself is based on Nvidia's CG programming. Read this month's PC Zone and see the preview. OK so CS:CZ is nothing to do with HL2? It is an independent game?

If that is the case, will there be a CS mod made for HL2? That would suck if the CS community became divided between the two game :/ [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

The bodies falling down that 'ramp' was quite impressive. Reminded me of a certain news clip but we wont go in to that :P. Will be cool too see how they incorperate all that stuff in to the game, gonna be a very high spec machine needed to run it id imagine. However as nice as their fully interactive scenery etc will I wonder if they will fix the hitboxes :P. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

You have to lisence the engine, and it aint cheap, but still cheaper than building your own from scratch.

CZ is supposed to have physics in it so i imagine it'll just be the ragdoll stuff weve seen in that fallguy and not much else.
But i imagine CS2 will use the new HL2 engine and have a lot more phyiscs stuff added, like blowing doors off hinges, moving boxes around, flipping up tables etc. I think they'll still try to maintain its current look and feel so it wont play like a rainbow 6, cos then it wouldnt be CS would it :) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Even if it's a heavily modified engine, they're unlikely to have made the physics worse, so one can only assume that they really will be that good. One of the most interesting is the ragdoll effects. If CS2 runs on that engine then being hit non-heady really may have an effect on your aim ... interesting idea :) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Read this month's PC Zone (or PC Gamer coming out later this month) for full info on the engine/physics/AI and stuff, it's truly frightening how far advanced it all is... miles ahead of everyone. Valve have some really talented coders. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Slider you haven't seen the physics demos in HL2, so what s*** are you chatting? Just about everyone played the Doom III alpha, and that had the physics engines and everything in place - the textures were actually quite unimpressive and though the lighting was good it doesn't actually look a patch on HL2's. HL2's engine is p***ing all over Doom III's according to all the previews so far, especially in relation to system specs - Valve are aiming to make it playable on a 1GHz w/ GeForce 2. The AI clearly kicks the s*** out of anything ever - it's the most advanced ever created in a game. Textures look miles better than ID's offering, and the physics don't seem to be as good either judging by reports...

Yes they make good engines but I think HL2 is just going to completely deflate Doom III and ID's egos (*cough* "I know, after my Quake success I'll make Daikatana!") [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Depends how the games are marketed i reckon. Many people might not be greatly familiar with HL2 and most of you seem to have forgotten how huge the Doom series has been and people will buy it as a follow on from games such as Doom 3 [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
