Element Sold To NoA

Posted by Myers at 23:01 18/5/2004.

Ola "Element" Moum, who made headlines following his decision to quit SK several weeks ago, has been bought out of his contract by NoA. Element therefore becomes the first Counter-Strike player to be sold to another team. Details concerning the terms and conditions have not, and will not, be announced, but bds did issue the following statement:

For the first time in eSports history, a player was bought out of his contract and switches teams officially, the way it should be. We strove to find a solution with all parties involved. As this is an absolute premiere in eSports, we had to break new ground. The highly professional work and attitude of everybody involved made it possible to sign contracts last week. We are looking forward to competing Ola and his new team in the next tournaments and wish him all the best for his future.

Ironically this attempt to end speculation will no doubt raise new fresh questions over the value of Element, how much is such a name worth and how much can NoA afford? If this is to open a door to a new level of professionalism within the gaming elite then we can have patiently speculate when and who will be the next eSports transfer?

It's unfortunate that NoA did not wait until Autumn to sign Element, he could've moved on a Bosman.

Over on TeamNoA.net Element has issued a short statement regarding the transfer.

Now, I'm in NoA, because I like a new challenge. I enjoy living in other countries and experiencing new cultures. By signing me, it's a sign we are going to have a future together in this coming year. I feel like I’m at home on this team and, to top it all off, in the company of friends.

Gary Sanchez, manager of NoA, offered a few words to explain the situation:

This means we're going to be increasing our player assets by bringing on such a talented and experienced competitor. We’ve always strived to bring e-Sports to a higher level of professionalism and we believe that by being the first team to purchase a players contract, we’re setting the proper example for future transactions as we [e-Sports] continue to progress.

The NoA lineup will be travelling to California to live and practice together for 2 months leading up to the CPL Summer World Championships.

bulls*** media spin, very clever aswell

the contract was prolly 5 pounds, but all the kids will think its thousands...therefore raising elements value and SKs value, yada yada everyone wins.

I'll take SK to SCEE for 10p and 3 conkers and a half chewed chewing gum! [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

their does seem to be a lot of spin going on here i agree, SK have certainly changed their tune from threatening legal action against Element to 'selling' element. Thus putting them once again at the forefront of professionalism. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I never heard about the mouz thing though, there's a difference between buying him out as giving money to the other team, and bribing them, i suspect the mouz case was the latter. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I think transfers such as this will be the staple of player movements in the future professional community, while as a few have commented that the recent happenings between SK/NoA have had a fair amount of "spin" associated with them as each party tries to reposition themselves, I think that the conclusion of this situation happened because of each party wanted a clean solution to their predicament (who wants to get drawn into legal action?) rather than a genuine professional transfer.

Why elemeNt didn't just wait for his contact to run out I have no idea. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

The most valuable assets that teams currently have that they could possibly trade would be sponsors. I don't see that NoA would have raw cash lying around, unless Angel has taken his precious time getting prize money out to them from cpl or whatever it was they did pretty well in (so I don't follow cs much, f***ing shoot me!); so it'd be interesting to know what was used for the trade [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Please list a few pros from this ?

All I see is a clan hopping player who has just had his head swell a few more inches. I agree money is to be made in the 'pro-gaming' scene but I dont agree on buying players...this is where its going to get very messy.

To do this type of thing properly you need a governing body, but as cs is split into categories because of 'pro-gaming' then you cant have one. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
