MPUK announces i8 as World Cyber Games prequalifier event

Multiplay have just announced that i8 (due to be held in Newbury on 24-27th August), will be a prequalifier event for the World Cyber Games:

Multiplay UK and LAN Arena have joined forces to bring the World Cyber Games to i8. i8 will be a prequalifier for the UK National WCG event soon to be announced. The UK National WCG Qualifier will have an estimated prize pot of £60,000, and the winners will be flown expenses-paid to Korea to compete in the World finals for even more cash in December 2001.

At the very least, winners of the i-series tournaments for WCG-hosted games will receive seeding into the UK qualifier, such as going right through to the 2nd or 3rd round. WCG-hosted games include Counterstrike, Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, Starcraft, Fifa 2001 and Age of Empires 2.

Looks like Professional Gaming is starting to hit the UK!
