Barcodes win i15

For many UK gamers this weekend the main focus of attention was not CPL Cannes 2003 but the latest in the 'Insomnia' LAN series 'i15'. This time the event was huge and it was the first LAN event to break the 1,000 participants mark with a total of 1,095 people attending. This huge number of gamers battled over the weekend on a number of different games but of course the one that matters to us is Counter-Strike. For many the 'Insomnia' LAN series has lost its appeal and is not as 'serious' as it once was, gone are the days where 4K would attend and wipe the floor with everyone. The memories of the SLDR vs. 4K final at i7 are distant. However the event still manages to attract gamers in there hundreds and the amateur and pro Counter-Strike tournaments are still contested strongly.

Last time round at i14 you may remember Barcodes took the title after a good final against Disturbed and they were back again to retain their title. They did not disappoint, Barcodes (Big-G, A_BeAsT, b33p, DuGsta, Droneboy) took the i15 tournament after a very close match in the final vs. erm (Bom, Monst, StoppA, Fox, kA). The match was played on de_aztec where the score finished 12-12 forcing them to play de_inferno where Barcodes came out on top 13-9. A truly excellent game with some brilliant moments, Fox's terrorist pistol round on Aztec just to name one. You can download the HLTV of both maps here courtesy of Rav0r. 12:32 17/3/2003		 exactly, it has lost its serious edge now, its a fun event where people go to socialise, yes there are competitions but there mainly designed so people can ahve a game of counter-strike with there clan. It isnt the CPL. Like dan said, if they got bigger prizes and made the effort to run the 'pro' tourny more smoothly i am sure more clans would come. the first event was run by Wireplay/Gameplay, and they called it insomnia 99, [i1] they then bought the rights to to the name insomnia, so they just call it iwoteva, cos insomnia = owned by gameplay, and they dont work with them any more [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Too many tournaments dropped it because the CPL did, and it is such a pity.
