The End of an Era

After nearly three years, the GAME.NET Multiplayer division is finally closing its doors. This of course means that BarrysWorld will be officially closed.

We are sad to announce that the Multiplayer service will be closing on 23rd January 2004. After nearly three years of operating the service, in its various guises, we've made the decision to focus our online activity on core e-commerce services, both in the UK and Europe.
The Multiplayer Team would like to thank everyone who helped build The Multiplayer Service into the award-winning operation it is today, especially all of the dedicated volunteers who have given their time and effort to the Service over the years - we couldn't have done it without you.

The BWCSL was one of the most respected leagues in the UK community and will without a doubt be missed by those that took part. This also means the current season must be finished by the 24th of January. I have been informed however, that the prizes will still be awarded and are not effected in anyway by this announcement. I would like to take this chance to thank the administration team that operated a fine service which many of us enjoyed being a part of.

On top of all that the servers became s***e, whats the point in paying for that? I remember the good old BW UKLA days with lots of top uk clans playing, the servers were good, the admining was good, it had a big following: money turned that all upside down. 	AndersSchm 20:46 22/12/2003	Maybe not a gaping void but the decline is significant at least in the CS scene. The number of leagues and server providers for CS is, in my experience, at a considerably lower level than it was 18 months ago. Not sure where everybody is going, there hasn't been any significant game of note to replace it. Whether another league will rise from the ashes of BWCSL is currently under question - whether it is financially viable and if the CS scene is worth further investment of time or whether it has had its day.
