After the first weeks of action in the BWCSL, a few spaces have opened up which need filling as soon as possible, here's the info:Week 1 of the league is over. It was a bit chaotic at times, but we've learned a lot and hopefully future weeks should be a bit more stable. We had some good games this week, but sadly a few clans, having told me they'd already paid, actually hadn't and have now decided not to. We've also had a few mix-ups and the like with clans not realising they were actually in the league, due to out-of-date contact e-mail addresses. As such, as far as I know, the following clans need replacing. If you're from one of these clans and you want to contradict me, please let me know ASAP. If you want to replace one of them, you should also let me know.Any new clans wishing to enter will play their scheduled week 1 games in week 8, meaning they won't have missed out on any matches. If you're interested, speak to Rogue1 in #bwcsl.

bit of a difference to "whining c***s" who "freeload" to a greedy company who expects people to pay for a service which is free at 10000000 other places around UK.
Online rpgs cost money each month for the fact of the quality of service you get. You get monthly updates, help when you require it, guarenteed there will be no cheaters (cheats get their accounts closed and are easily spottable, naturally) and quality server connections.
You pay for BW, you get fecking bookable servers, public servers, 20mb of webhosting and some crappy web email..
Also, the rtcw league doesn't cost any money, yet the cs one does?
The clans who paid are a bit ripped off. Paying to play online cs (yeah online cs is amazing!) for no real benefit even if you win, and no other games charging for their league. gg. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Well... you didn't come track me down, but I may as well list those reasons again anyway. :)
Basically, leagues cost money to run. Game servers cost money, bandwidth costs money and even the hosting for the website costs money. At this point, everybody usually cries "but sponsors will take care of it all". For those of you who hadn't noticed, online sponsorship is going down the drain pretty fast these days. Sure, a lot of leagues are getting by on it for the moment, but it's just not going to prove sustainable in the long run and I'd rather go through the difficult transitional phase we're in now, rather than later when our back truly is up against the wall?
Why can't we survive on sponsorship etc? Surely we have our hardware already, so there shouldn't be any more "big" expenses. It'd be nice if this was true, but sadly, each new CS version pushes up the server requirements. Our old servers were fine in the days of CS1.3. They kinda managed in 1.4. Those of you who played last season will remember what a joke they could be in 1.5. I dread to think what 1.6 would do to them; without seriously improved servers, we'd have been looking at folding.. By the end of last season, we had our servers running in a stripped-down, minimalist config with no anti-cheat and no option of even thinking about WWCL. In these suspicious times, an online CS league can't really credibly continue like that. This means we need new hardware. With pay-to-play, we've got new hardware, and our servers are now fine.
I accept a lot of people can't afford to or don't want to pay to play in the league. That's fine. I'm not going to cry "freeloader" or anything like that, since it's not my job to tell you how you should be spending your money. However, before you accuse us of "greed" and "being tight", remember that the day-to-day operation of the league is run by unpaid volunteers and that GAME and Barrysworld need to make money if they want to continue operating. Companies trying to make a bit of money is nothing new and it's something I'm sure you're all used to and take for granted in other areas of your life.
As I say, if you don't think pay-to-play is your thing, don't do it. There are, for the moment, plenty of other free leagues around. However, I think with the new prizes and the better servers, not to mention the whole other range of BW services, that it's not really such a bad deal.
As always, I don't speak on behalf of BW. I'm just an unpaid volunteer, not an employee, and my opinions are not necessarily those of BW/GAME. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

a) arrange the games urself with other clans - look at CSVS so far this year. there into week 2 and are allready behind schedule.
b) ladders - yay.
c) try and be like bwcsl and have a schedule.
With the exception of savage cs league, i think the rest can't offer such an exerienced fun league to be a part of.
As to the subscriptions, yer i was a bit doubtful at first, but after playing on the servers in week 1, i can tell it is money well spent. They were fast with low pings, the bullets registered fine and they had wwcl plugin running also. They also had HLTV running on every server, as well as scorebots in irc.
Last season the servers were a joke tbh, no offence intended rogue1 :)
So yer, if ur clan cba to gather £60 between you, for aproximately 3 seasons of the UK's best online league, then thats your bad luck. But insulting bwcsl because you begrudge spending some of your pocket money is just sad. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

They claim to be a 40 clan P2P league at a tenner a season ( half that of Bw's, but do they give you webhosting, and 20 hours of bookable time a week for that price? )
They actually only have 30.
How many does BW have?
Intened to be 64, with 13 drop outs so far.
Thats still 51 clans competing, and some replacements will be found, so probably around 55/60. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Second (in reply to the comments)
Jolt's first season WAS 40 clans, but due to some c**kups and serious staff shortages untill i took control of the league last month, we'd been 11 months in suspension scince the previous season.
Why run with 32 clans then?
Because some clans had paid 2 months previously and it was unfair to wait longer, i decided to run the season with slightly smaller divisions (the only real diviison affected by this was the premiership)
Why £10?
£10/season/clan isn't a lot of money, not when you get 8-10 scheduled games and the chance of winning one of the prizes - which i might add, are PAID for by the subscription, no fee, no prizes. No entry fee also leads to time wasters, who default every week, or who attempt to break rules, who's pays to cheat etc..... Jolt makes no net profit from entry to the league as ALL the money goes to the prizes, which means that running the website/servers/bandwidth all costs jolt money.....
Btw, i might add that like Rogue1, i'm an unpaid volunteer, as is my admin team, and i do this out of some twisted love for the community and the game rather than to "Make a few bob"..... [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

So the prize for Division one has a value of £85 according to your website, and for 2 and 3 £75 each (presuming they're not passworded, which would make them £10 cheaper).
[strong]Total prize value of £235
£10 each from 32 entering clans = £320[/strong]
So, where does that £95 go?
And before you tell me it's for the expense of running the league, perhaps I should mention that £235 is what jolt retail them for, and they must cost jolt a lot less.
A very, very conservative estimate would be it costs jolt 2/3 of the retail cost to run them - so let's see, that's £156.67
Hmmm, so going by that, Jolt will make over 160 quid from running the league, and let's not forget that the if the clans are given servers free for one month, it wouldn't be unreallistic to think that more than one of them would continue with it after, paying full price, much like those junkmail offers where they tempt people to join book clubs by letting people pay only 30p for the books in their first order.
The league is non profit, my arse. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

85 * 2 = 170
