The CPL today announced several upcoming changes to the CAL league. CAL will become a subsection of The CPL, this means that Angel Munoz and Frank Nuccio will be in charge of both the CPL and CAL.
There will be prizes for the top teams each season:
"The top two winning teams of CAL Counter-Strike Invite will receive $2,500 each to travel to the CPL Summer 2004 Extreme Championships, sponsored by the Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology Extreme Edition."
The Invite seasons will be significantly longer - 5 months. This is so the last match of the season between the top two teams can be played at the summer CPL in Dallas, and presumably the following season at the Winter CPL.
Also new is the "Counter-Strike Premier Cup", which is akin to an FA Cup for the CAL leagues. Prizes will be provided by the sponsors, Intel.
This should provide a more interesting competition in N. America, though some may be worried about Munoz and Nuccio being in charge.

but i presume like most cs leagues each team plays each other once ?
if so isnt it kinda hard for them to guess whos gonna be the top two teams as they wud have to then work the fixtures around the idea that these 2 might be top etc etc blah blah...
or are they gonna do it like nhl / rugby / american footie ? and have top 2 teams in a play off ?
also how they gonna make a cs league last 5 months with such a few number of teams involved ? :x [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Are you an idiot? It's an American tournament with American sponsors so why is it unfair that they do this in an American tournament exactly? That's like saying UKT should have qualifiers in America for Secondary strike...
At the end of the day all the CPL cares is that the required number of teams turn up and play in the tournament, they don't give a f*** which country they happen to come from. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
