UK/IE Cup Draws 16th Finals

The UK/IE CS Cup, which aims to stand out both as online and LAN event in the United Kingdom and Ireland, started its season with 136 accepted British and Irish CS teams. After the qualifiers this number was down to 40 teams in the Groupstage, which ended last night, opening up the way to the playoffs.

Last night, shortly after the last groupmatch was played (UniCon beating noLimit 28-16) the UK/IE Cup announced the fixtures for its 16th finals, together with the maps for both the 16th and 8th finals (last two playrounds online, both single elimination).

The 16th finals, consisting of no.2's of the groupstage playing other group's no.3's, will be played next week. The 8th finals, consisting of the winners of the 16th finals playing against the eight winning teams of the groupstage (MM.evd, CNN, 4Kings, SFAL, Choke, zebras, UniCon, ONE), is planned to be played the week after.

The maps for the 8th finals were chosen as de_clan1_mill & de_nuke.

The fixtures for the 8th finals were originally also drawn last night, however due to a flaw spotted in the draw system of the 8th finals fixtures (complete tourney layout made in Februar), these will be re-announced after the 16th finals have finished.

In other news the UK/IE Cup announced the addition of two additional prizesponsors: Eurotech, which provides the Cup with five mice + pad packages (worth over 65 pound sterling a piece), and hardcore computer user magazine PC Extreme, who sponsors the tropheys ('the Cup', and medals for top three) and will also send reporters to the LAN Finals event, which takes place Sunday the 20th of June at LITE, and will cover it in their magazine.

Teams participating in the 16th finals have till Saturday 9pm to arrange the exact date+time with their opponent to play their fixture on.
