Clanbase XI - €50,000 Prize Purse

The hardworking folk over at Clanbase today made a startling announcement. Following on from their partnership with America's Global Gaming League the 11th season of the Clanbase Eurocup will now have a €50,000 prize purse.

EuroCup XI will have €50.000 in prize money. €40.000 will be awarded to the following five EuroCups, which will all be concluded on LAN finals during the summer of 2005:

• CounterStrike 5on5: €15.000 (€7.000 for the winners)
• UT2004 TDM 4on4: €7.500 (€3.000 for the winners)
• Call of Duty S&D 5on5: €7.500 (€3.000 for the winners)
• WarCraft III TFT 1on1: €5.000 (€1.500 for the winner)
• An FPS 1on1 or 2on2 (tbd): €5.000

The Clanbase Eurocup was formerly the most prominent European online competition in which every team competed to prove their worth amongst the European elite. In recent years the lack of LAN finals, prizes and the emergence of other competitions as the ESL Counter-Strike Champions League and Swedish eSports League has reduced the desire to compete. Teams preferred to save their tactics for the ever-growing number of online/offline events offering cash prizes.

It is good news that CS is amongst the list of games being featured in Eurocup XI. As a result of over half the teams withdrawing from the Eurocup IX competition, clanbase admins decided not to host one in their 10th season. The UK has a good history in the event with TAG finishing 3rd in Eurocup VIII and Four-Kings Intel earning themselves a second place in Eurocup VII.
