A new CS Source video has been released courtesy of German games magazine PC Games. The five minute AVI file contains run-throughs of a few CS maps using the new Source engine, including cs_italy and de_cbble:

There are also short interviews with Erik Johnston and Jess Cliffe (translations have kindly been provided by users in the comments for this news item). The final question I'm guessing is "when will it be released?", to which the English answer is "summer".
The file's 31.1MB, here are some mirrors (thanks to CSN):

HL2 Engine is going to run fine on a 1600mhz CPU with a Directx9 gfx card, Radeon 96/800 Pro should run it fine put along with a decent mid range CPU (if u cant afford that then i dunno how you can moan when you play CS with your current PC's)
Wouldnt suprise me if CS on Source runs better and faster than CS on HL engine, cause it will have been optimised for newer hardware as opposed to the old HL engine which isnt. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

They may say that, but look at steampowered.com:
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP
64 MB RAM
400 Mhz processor
1GB HD space (recommended)
Broadband Internet connection (recommended but not required)
^ can you imagion getting more than 20fps on that? - not really, i tried cs on a s***ty 555mhz, 196mb ram + it got 1-25fps
I think thats why people are saying it, in short i don't think they believe it will be able to run on such a low spec such as a 1.6ghz :( - Hopefully HL2/CS2 will be better though :D (well programmed better etc) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I'm SLOWLY upgrading my PC for HL2, just got new PSU and 9800pro which is being held back by my lovely 1.8 GHZ CPU. I'm hoping to get a new mobo and CPU within a month so all should be well, I hope :/ [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Sure, I very much doubt everything will be movable, but I'm sure that anything that is, can pretty much be moved around fairly freely. As someone else already said though, I can see all this really sapping the bandwith. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Look at HL does it have any options to tone down graphics other than changed to 16 bit color or lower res? No because back then they didnt scale the engine much.
With Source engine you can change a lot of graphical settings such as texture quality and model quality. So it can probably be playable on a low end machine just dont expect any water reflections or fancy graphics. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Travel agency PC Action wants to know from you: where do you want to spend your holiday ? in the italy of the good old counter strike, or in the completely refurbished italy of CS source ?
The sequel to the most popular online action game of all time looks greatly inviting. We were given the exlusive opportunity to try it out over network at Valve.
CS is a short rounded multiplayer game in which two rivalising parties fight each other in competitive matches, while pumping each other full with lead.
[1:00] The battle between counter-terrorists and the bad guys wont be changed much in this new engine, and thats why Valve refrained from calling it counter-strike 2.
Erik Johnson: "We're seeing this project as a next step in the development of the excisting counter-strike. Thats why i think we shouldnt propose it as a independent sequel, but as a way for the experienced users to play the known game which they've been playing for years, yet now in counter-strike source.
There wont really be any gameplay changes or drastic course changes from the original counter-strike to start with."
Its not just an added palmtree if you look at it how dramatically good the old common maps shine in this new look.
Not just community-favourite "dust" admiringly good looks like a refurbished duplica,
also "cbble" went through quite some positive changes.
'Seeing "havana" and die' is the motto of this (cs_havana) level, and the new "italy" we find simply 'blasting'.
After the release the developers will implement more and more extra features and release brandnew maps especially designed for the CS source version.
Jess Cliffe: "We've been thinking a lot what to do with the new CS source functions, there are incredibly many possibilities.
Just with the size of maps alone a lot can be done, as the maximum size has tenfolded, you can make the map as big as you want, and create huge landscapes, something what absolutely wasnt possible in the old version.
Fore a while we've been willing to make huge jungle maps, vast worlds or actual cities which dont look like just a couple of buildings.
Now we can make cities which stretch out for kilometers wide. This completely changes the way how we regard mapmaking.
[3:00] We're no longer bound by size, basically we can build exactly what we want and works well in conjuction with the gameplay."
The new engine brings new effects like how realistically here the daylight comes in through the windows.
Also never did play-figures get hit and collapse as realstically as here. "Watch out! shotgun"
The source engine also brings freedom and fun with they physics, which will partially have an effect on the game tactics. In this example the 'rearranging' of the furniture creates a decent barrier to stop enemies on your tail.
According to Erik Johnson Valve experiments a lot regarding to what extend new objects will be introduced into the maps.
[4:00] Erik Johnson: "This is something we're currently researching and will continue to do so in the future. Physics in multiplayer is for a various reasons a very interesting problem, as for the technical as design aspect of the case.
For the players it will be a fundamental new play world, in which objects become and feel less static. You no longer move through a artificial worlds, as objects react as they do in reality. For example crates and tons fly everywhere in case of an explosion."
The version we're showing here isnt the final version yet, as the game still will get a round of updates and changes, like the improvement of various textures.
Counter-Strike Source will come for free as an addon for all buyers of Half-life 2.
The final release draws near, but Valve doesnt want to pin itself down to a more precise date than: "Summer".

I had to get a nice 3DFX voodoo to and run it in SLI with another voodoo 2 and use glide api to actually get a half decent framerate
Can you please show me where the game has been updated only thing ive seen is a few model and skin changes and thats not really made f*** all difference on fps side. All the shaders/lights/textures are still the same from 1998 [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
