CS:Source Beta Update

Posted by appz at 09:50 24/9/2004.

An update to the Counter-Strike:Source Beta was released last night, including fixes for a number of bugs and performance improvements. Here's the changelog:

  • Improved DX7 graphics code path performance by up to 225%
  • Fixed key bindings for non-US layouts causing the scoreboard to be stuck on.
  • Fixed barrel nudging player forever if you crouched near it.
  • Made correct names appear in "attacked teammate" message.
  • Made changelevel due to map timelimit happen at round end.
  • Added intermission scoreboard at end of round.
  • Disabled hiding viewmodel with "impulse 200" if sv_cheats is off.
  • Fixed reload exploit.
  • Fixed C4 sound not playing while planting.
  • Stopped money icon being red on level change.
  • Added C4 icon in first person spectator mode if spectated player has the bomb.
  • Fixed a problem where the game would crash when run on Win98 with a NVidia 5900, 5950, or 6800.
  • Fixed crash due to stacking large numbers of weapons.
  • Fixed muzzle flashes showing incorrectly when switching players in spectator mode.
  • Fixed voice_banmgr.dt growing exponentially.

Prior to this a smaller Steam Client update was released fixing the server browser problem, which prevented some servers from being displayed, and re-enabled custom ingame content.

Seriously, who buys a 6800 to play on Windows 98 : I'd like to see how many people are actually on that setup [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

did u fill in the HL2 survey mOrt?

If so you can look and see how many people are on what OS and what GFX card manufacturer. May look like a small percentage, but that adds up to a large number of people maybe. Its a small fix. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

CS:S has a long way to go before it even touches cs (both s*** games unfortunately). Valve could have just done something as simple as add some good maps to the official CS Map list. Everyone would have been happy then :( [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

70 - 200 fps with gfx like in css is good, but the thing i find that kills my fps is when u shoot barrels and when the physics kick in. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Which corner are you standing in?

And run 1.6 using your D3D driver insted of open[O]G[C]L like CS:S uses and see if you get anywhere near 100fps [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

exactly right sarge they just want the whole spectrum to have a pretty much equal chance of having a playable game of source atm.

But im on a 3.2ghz with fx5900 ultra and im getting 60-70 fps with a little lower in big fps eating situations.

But you also have to take into consideration the masses of people who think a computers performance is dictated by cpu + gfx :/ [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I still feel that valve havent coded this game to a high standard.Although I get good fps thats on a top spec pc.My son gets 20 to 40 on a decent spec pc :(.I stil feel detached from game and most kills are luck not skill hitboxes need drastic action.ATM it isnt a fair game as my fps gets me good scores and thats cant be correct that peeps with high end pcs come top should be down to skill alone [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Havors: By overclocking my gfx card, lowering my ram timings (2-2-2-11), having a second hard drive for my pagefile, having a sys defrag run on boot, disabling usless services in xp etc...

Streamlinging your system for gaming takes up some time, but once it's done it's done.

Also I have these in my config:

fog_enable "0"
r_3dsky "0"
r_eyes "0"

A recent email to Valve's Erik Johnson from a member at Halflife2.net sheds some light on why the latest CS: Source update was so massive in size.
We're preloadeding the rest of CS Source.
Contained within the latest update were texture files for a number of other maps as well as files dealing with waypoints and hostages.
