With surplus amounts of turkey and mince pies propping up our stomach, it's time to drag yourselves away from the E4 Friend's marathon and Best tv/radio/news/political/film moments of 2004 and back to where you belong, arms' length away from the monitor following the latest happenings in our ever-developing UK gaming community. UKT has received some exclusive information regarding next year's European Online Gaming Championships at GameStars LIVE.
Gamestars Live have now confirmed that the EOGC 2005 will be title sponsored by the Car Giant Chevrolet, owned by General Motors. The Chevrolet EOGC 2005 finals will be held from 31st Aug - 4th September at London's docklands exhibition centre "ExCeL". Gamers from across Europe will be competing for the title as well as prizes and cash, and most significantly Chevrolet will also be donating one of their top of the range motors as a grand prize to be drawn as a lotto between all the winners.
Qualifying will begin in May in the UK at IGUK LAN Gaming centres and also in various lan centres across the EU. In addition there will be online qualifiers and the opportunity for players to walk in and qualify on the day. Rumours also speculate on gaming as a feature at the Chevrolet stand at various international car shows.
UKT caught up with London Eventco's Dominic Mulroy, who alongside Sujoy Roy helms the show:
This is a great moment in gaming, for the first time I can remember, a non games/IT industry has come in and sponsored the biggest Gaming event in the UK. And not just any industry, but a car company! This goes to show that gaming is becoming more mainstream and is recognised not just by those within the industry but by major multinationals in other fields too.The tie up with Chevrolet has been a real eye opener for ourselves as well as our other sponsors. The opportunities to cross promote across different fields is something that a lot in the games industry are keen to explore, and Chevrolet provide that opportunity. Dont be too suprised to hear about new relationships between the car and games industry in the near future, and keep an eye out for some of Europes biggest car shows, we will be there.
GameStars LIVE will no doubt be looking to build upon last year's success which saw them overshadow long-running trade show ECTS, with several top software companies already signed up. London Eventco, management agents of Gamestars Live and the EOGC, will also be running the first ever "consumer and trade show for pro-gamers". Dominic explained:
We want companies that produce products and services for the gamers of tomorrow to exhibit at the show and become a mainstream feature of Gamestars Live from 2005. I think we will all want to see whats available now and what is just round the corner.
EOGC have not yet announced wether this competition will be CS Source or 1.6, but expect an announcement within the next month. UKT will endeavour to keep you updated with the latest GSL/EOGC news throughout the year, stay tuned. The new EOGC website is due for launch in February, anyone with questions regarding the exhibition can contact Dominic Mulroy

I hope Im wrong, but I see it more as a one off on Chevrolet's part rather than a regular event they will take part in. Still, its a good way to bring other companies in and I hope Dominic and Sujoy make the absolute most of it for everyone's sakes. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Thats a three year commitment from the car giant, not just a one-off which Im sure everyone will be pleased at. It guarantees the event for the long term and also shows commitment from our sponsors that the EOGC and GSL is a great combination.
We will have the usual games/IT sponsors there too, and they are loving the opportunity it provides because it opens their brand to the car industry market. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Good luck then all involved, this is a great building block for UK Gaming and hopefully will deliver the much needed exposure that everyone seems to have been waiting for. My hats off to you, I'll never know how you did it but thats a hell of an achievement. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
