E-Sports Lan Manchester

The first E-Sports Lan has been announced, run by Unicon of Manchester and also l-i-t-e of Macclesfield. With first prize amounting to £1000 for the 5v5 counter-strike competition it's certainly not to be taken lightly. The event runs from 12th-14th September and is supported by Intel, D-Link and L!ve publishing. Here's a snippet from the a site:

19:46 18/8/2003		 50 notes is alot to pay n ill be thinking about it but, i can garrantee a top laugh @ UniCon, sound owners and most likely a quality run event like most of them are down there (PLUS mint PC's without windows damn 98 on). The venue is superb... i had my footie do there last year... huge venue... great location in town centre... easy to get to... large carparks.... Cs comp on good spec machines and u can pcw great clans on lan and play vs good players... play watever games u want... meet with other players... bar upstairs... no crammed seating arrangements... and u can pop out for any type of food at any time!!!... its fking ace.. well worth 50 quid! 48hrs.

just remember 2 clear the 'foam' off the floor from last years freshers :D

00:11 19/8/2003		 toko - yeh the majority of the event is BYOC, however to make the tournament on a level playing field there is tournament pc's set up all running the same spec, configs, etc to keep fair as possible.

its a sort of in between event mixing a bit of i-series in with a bit of a more professional side to it.

wcg, bootcamp invites, this...

i enjoy playing CS but the cost of it is really starting to add up, and we're not just talking entrance fees, I really am not sure if I cannot afford the petrol costs travelling around like this, and I'm sure a lot of people are in the same situation as me.

Being realistic saying "£1,000" prize money when u only pay £50 isn't a valid argument because I'm 99% certain i won't see a penny of that prize money.

It sounds like a good event, if I'm pressurised by my clan mates into going I'll go, but as i said before, the added cost of wcg in London a week before that, possibly a bootcamp in cardiff before that.... [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

One main 'up' this lan has over any other is that its in manchester and not wayyyy down south with all you southern gits (offense intended) :P
