ESReality Player Of The Year 2003 Winners

Last night saw the ESReality Player Of The Year 2003 awards go as planned, here are the winners of each of the games and a brief overview of what made them stand out to come away with the award courtesy of ESReality:

Counter Strike - SK|elemeNt

It was mainly because the Norwegian was the element SK was missing to become invincible. After he had joined the clan, SK were unstoppable and won CPL Summer, CPL Denmark, WCG and CPL Winter. Although he was replaced by SpawN at the WCG and in Denmark, it is said that his strategy was one of the key elements to SK’s success.

Unreal Tournament 2003 - Lauke

Lauke entered competitive UT2003 fairly late compared to other top players and he did not compete in the ESReality Online tournament which was a fairly good indication of the balance of power in Europe. He gained up on the competition quickly and qualified to the Electronic Sports World Cup. In Poitiers, he finished fifth, but showed what he was capable of by drawing 1-1 against Fatal1ty on the main stage. Later on, he took the Euskal LAN trophy pretty much unchallenged and won the European Cyber Games in September. He came to the World Cyber Games as the #1 favourite, took the Nations vs Nations trophy with roach but came short of luck in the final where he lost to Forrest (who had lost to Lauke in the Euskal and ECG finals). Lauke also won ESo2 and the c58 Invite online tournaments, and he did it in style.

Quake III Arena - Cooller

Not much doubt here. The Russian monster won every LAN competition he attended. First it was QLAN, where he beat fox and Z4muZ, then he beat uNkind in a show match and then he conquered France by winning one of the toughest Q3 tournaments in history. He missed QuakeCon but he won a few domestic tournaments and the Swiss Wipeout. Most definitely, he will be the man to beat in every competition he enters in 2004.

There were also awards for the biggest leap of the year in each of the games:

Counter Strike - SK|SpawN
Quake III Arena - Z4muZ
Unreal Tournament 2003 - Forrest
