It's been six months since the single major American IRC network at the time, GamesNET, was shut down due to a trademarks fiasco. However, it now appears the court case has been settled between the 7 GamesNET directors and Donald 'CoolHandLuke' Wasylyna, who filed the charges claiming the IRC network had infringed on trademark laws by using the GamesNET title.
Mr Wasylyna, who was successful in his case against the IRC network, has now reclaimed the rights to the name 'GamesNET', and has announced the return of the once major network. The 7 guys who once ran the GamesNET network, are currently in charge of it's replacement, known as 'GameSurge'.
The re-formed GamesNET will be a whole new IRC network, with just the name being in common with the old network. This has the potential to divide America's gamers between the 2 networks, although popular opinion at the moment favours the GameSurge network.
It seems the new network is set to go live in the next 24 hours. Keep an eye on http://gamesnet.com/ for the latest info.
