The team behind the much anticipated Half-Life 2 at Valve have revealed that several arrests have been made in connection with the theft of part of the source code from their up-coming sequel.
One of the main guys behind HL2, Gabe Newell, revealed that the arrests would not have been possible if it weren't for the massive co-operation and support from the online community.
Gabe had this to say:
Within a few days of the announcement of the break-in, the online gaming community had tracked down those involved, It was extraordinary to watch how quickly and how cleverly gamers were able to unravel what are traditionally unsolvable problems for law enforcement related to this kind of cyber-crime.
After receiving thousands of tip-offs from the community, Valve were able to pass information on to law enforcement agencies around the World, who were able to make several arrests in different countries.
As Mr Newell added, it's very encouraging to see such a great response from the online-community who can be awarded most of the credit in catching the hackers.
