Hostile Intent Released

A new Half-Life Modification has recently been released under the name of Hostile Intent. The game is quite similar to Counter Strike with a counter-terrorism feel to it. The boast about this game compared to CS is that they believe it has a much better teamplay factor which could be a big interest to many gamers at the moment who are looking for a mix of CS and the likes of Rainbow 6.

There are many weapons available to use in HI which are, mp5, spas12, m4a1, m16, mac11, ak-14 to name a few, so the weapons available are of a similar selection to CS.

Here is more information on the game:

Realism: Hostile Intent is all about realism, covering realistic weapon damage, realistic missions and mission stories. Hostile Intent gives the player the feeling he's actually there. Be it a nuclear submarine, an embassy raid or a military base in the middle east, each and every one of them is modeled with a level of detail that a lot of other games/mods/tc's don't have.

Map specific player skins: Each and everyone is done with such an amount of detail and life-life animations that it makes a lot of the current retail games out look ugly. For every mission theme there is a skin set from which the Level Designer can choose from.

Extra equipment: Need a little bit more of a BANG in your attack? Grab a Fragmental Grenade. Or are you looking for a stealthy approach during the night? Better put on those night-vision goggles. Looking for a tactical entry in that building?
Grab a flash-bang and take the enemy out while they're blinded.

A realistic aiming system: The only realistic way of simulating how to aim and fire a gun. In most games you use crosshairs to aim. In Hostile Intent however, we chose to use a different way of aiming. An idea a lot of retail games are already
incorporating. Hostile Intent also uses the aim through the gun's sights as it's aiming tool. Don't worry, if you think the gun is obstructing your vision then you can just lower the weapon to waist level. This does however, seriously affects accuracy.

16:32 31/12/2003		 Just been reading about this game and from what i see its a slower FPS game and imo there are way to many slow games out atm and what i would like to see is a mix between q3 and cs would be the best sort of thing.
atm the only thing that holds cs back is the fact that some people wouldnt wanna watch it well for a fact i know i love to watch a good q3 game even tho im not a good q3 player for the fact that its fast and really really aim 100% action.

17:03 31/12/2003		 Just spent a couple of hours on it. First impressions are good, although it should be damn perfect after they've spent 4 years working on it. The guns and recoil feel perfect and the maps are pretty well designed, with a lot of detail.

It's pretty buggy though. Doors open inwards, players animations look like they're ice-skating when they're walking and the telefragging upon spawn is irritating to say the least. There's also no HUD (due to the developer's oath of uber-realism) so you can't check your health or ammo acount.

If you're looking for realistic, slow, tactical gameplay, it's good. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

17:18 31/12/2003		 The general idea is that you don't need a health counter. It takes about 1-3 shots to kill you, and even if you survive from one or two shots, you'll be on very little health.

As for ammo, you have to count how many rounds you squeeze off and how many times you reload. Not sure how many rounds are in a clip then. :-( [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

OFP is great multiplayer in co-op, agree that the CTF etc versions are s*** though.

I think all of the top 5 times I've laughed the most at something while playing an online game were all in OFP.

21:09 31/12/2003		 The iron sight works in CoD, but in this game it's just s***. It took me 10 minutes to work out how to join a team, even then I wondered around for 15 minutes looking for the opposition in some s*** jungle level. The way the deaths and kills are displayed, is just lol.

04:52 1/1/2004		 You have to update steam for the servers to appear in the server browser.
To do this (assuming you have installed it correctly), you need to logout, after that enter your steam folder and locate the clientregistary.blob and delete it.
Then go into the config subdirectory (Steam/Config) and delete masterservers.vdf and serverbrowser.vdf .
