The creator of the legendary de_dust, DaveJ, has updated his site with two articles about his 2 most popular maps, de_dust and de_dust2. The articles, "The Making of Dust" and "The Making of Dust2" go into detail on how he came up with the famous layout of dust, and the excellent gameplay of Dust2 among other things.Naturally, the map would have been named Dust 2, but that didn't feel right. I believe sequels should improve on the original, and I didn't feel confident that would happen. 'Dust 1.5' would have been more appropriate if the map was based on Dust and shared much of the layout, but I wanted a new layout. 'Dust 3' seemed better - the third sequel in a series of movies is usually never as good as the first two, so that name stuck.The articles are both interesting reads, well worth a look.
Update: Site is back up.

How embarrassing.
I got 3GB of traffic last night, and at least a gig more this morning. I can't say I expected that.
Either way, my host has a limit of 3GB / month... and well, it's all gone! Not to mention the fact that the PHP usage seemed to take over the machine that the site was/is running on.
So, what now? Well, I'm not sure. I'll see.
Sorry to all you guys who didn't get to see those articles... but for those of you that did visit, thanks. It was quite fun (and scary) to see the logfile expand at a rate of megs a minute...
