I haven't got Steam to work properly yet to play 1.6 so hopefully this update will help. Apparently a new platform.dll and a bug fix or two. I'll let Erik Johnson do the talking:
We've released both a new version of the desktop components of Steam, as well as new versions of all games currently running via Steam. The most significant change in this release is the fix for the in-game freezeups people are seeing.
You can view the changes in this release by right clicking on the game in your Games list and clicking on "Update History".

It's VAC time again and last night a new version was released. This latest incarnation has (I'm told) stiffer ban penalties and even more OpenGL cheat detection.
*** This only affects Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat servers. ***We've updated the public security modules again. These security modules detect more OpenGL cheats with increasingly greater ban penalties for repeated detections.
Your Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat servers should update themselves automatically. Let me know if you have any problems with these security modules and we'll look into them right away.
Thanks.

Servers are updated automatically, so game on! Hey what's with all the Eric/Eriks at VALVe these days. Are they taking over the world...?
