Long serving CSGN staff member Karl "Stono" Stoney this week announced his departure from CSGN to concentrate on other commitments. Stono along with Obsidian launched the Counter-Strike Gaming Network back in 2002 and quickly established the competition as the most popular CS league in the UK. In recent times Stono focused much of his efforts upon the CSGN "anti-cheat" software providing teams with a safe and fair environment in which to compete.
As the title says, and as many of you will know by now, I am officially stepping down from my position in CSGN for the immediate future. The purpose of this post is to explain my reasoning behind stepping down and to say my goodbyes.Just over 2 weeks ago I decided to step down from my responsibilities in CSGN. This came as a shock to a lot of people especially considering the amount of work I had done on the Anti Cheat over the past few months it didn’t seem to make sense why I would throw it away.
I’ve come to realise how much my university work has been suffering as a result of CSGN, I have been spending 3-5 hours a night every night without break working on CSGN, this naturally didn’t leave much time for me to do my university work and as a result my grades have been suffering. Many of you are probably thinking ‘he should just balance his time better’ but unfortunately it isn’t as simple as that, 90% of the work I do on CSGN is dealing with queries and problems from you, the players, not actually hard coding the website or the anti cheat. I received my semester results and to put it bluntly I need to perform the absolute best I can in the second semester to pass the year. This leaves no space for CSGN.
Stono joins a saddening list of UK competition organising casualties who have struggled to put in the time required to run such events. As those that have waded through the murky waters of online gaming adminning, vast amounts of time, effort and dedication are required on behalf of the organisers to make these events work, and even more so to make these events a success. These organisers deserve our best possible support and praise for what they accomplish. Stono's departure puts Obsidian in sole charge of the league during its 6th season.
In related news a new gaming site has opened offering users "the ability to play as many matches per day as you want." Head on over to The-Ladders for more information on this ambitious project.

As Myers also mentioned, we both know how timeconsuming it can be, especially when you strive to some perfection, and compared to the rewards.. the balance is meager.
Anyway, hope for the best, so you get your year sorted, I'd say if you'd put in half of the effort you put in CSGN it shouldnt be a problem mate :D

For me it was a much easieer choice DoZ ;P .. it was 3-5 hours a day I rather spend with my girlfriend ;) so a win/win situation. Obviously this have given me time for a load more things I hated to be cutting time off with cs, so it's not just her who's taking the benefits.
Forgot to mention it earlieer:
Best of luck to you taking charge on your own now Obsidian ! :) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
