The Titans Reign Supreme

Posted by NoToRiOuS at 19:10 11/7/2004.

Just moments ago those crazy Danes The Titans won ESWC defeating spiXel 13 - 11 on de_dust2. This game was tense through out with spiXel making a late come back taking it to the wire. However the Danes stayed calm and took the win. The Titans looked in great form all tornament finishing undefeated. Congrats go out to them and spiXel for one of the most tense and nail biting finals ever.

It was a little shame that HLTV went down for a while, however it was great to see 18,000+ spectators watching the finals. This is sure to be a good sign for CS' future as an e-sport.

Links for the demo will be updated as and when they come in.

is there a reason dust2 is played so much? having amazing tactics and having great teamplay doesn't exactly mean anything on it .. compared to maps like mill and fire its pretty useless [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

eswc used 4 maps for the tourney, dust2, inferno, nuke and train.

each team got to veto 1 map and then they decided between the last 2 or something like that, and most clans must have wanted to play dust2. for the final i think both teams used their veto on inferno, so if a 2nd or 3rd map was needed train and nuke would have been used (dunno how order is worked out) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I think the combination of too much dust2 & mr12 made for a lot of upsets -- not sure if that's a good thing or not. Gotta say it showed how much need there is for a few more competition maps (I don't think fire is up to it with the fence as it is). [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Yeah, 18,000+ spectators that got to see the first 4 rounds of the game.

They wasted all the good HLTV uptime on the hour and a half of warm-up fgs!

There were like 5,000 spectators after the crash until the end of the game. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Spixel didnt win but.. the big bull and wallenberg have now proved themselves as two of the best players in the world(As i've always said), spixel are probably the newst formed clan in the whole tournament yet made it to the finals, bullen knifed someone in a 2v5 while on eco, walle showed the whole world exactly how to use the 'avp'. They played the finals like it was a mix game either thats medley-glock arrogance or stupidity and when youve got walle and bullen calling tactics I doubt its stupidity, when they replace crypt with miniw they will be the best team in the world.. mark my words. 18k is hardly alot as a proportion of the total world population.
also d2 is a lame map for pro. clans to play on.
they need new tourney maps. rotterdam would be better than d2. most/all new maps since 1.0 have been s***. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

in my opinion cs is (sometimes) fun to play. but to watch it is incredibly boring and will never appeal to the casual,non-obsessive gamer. and it will neve appeal to people who dont play [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

The event had best coverage ever too, the games were never late and the ingame admin thing is quality, keeping gameson schedule, multiple games were played at a time, which is fine for group games. Was a bit of a shame cos the tourny was all most too efficient as you could only watch one 1/4 final out of 4, cos they were all played @ same time. Web coverage was well quick. Even the irc update bots in esworldcup.cs were good for coverage. Add some shoutcast and coverage woulda been quality. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I quit cs a while back, but i watched the final. Along with listening to vesslan and co. on shoutcast it was comparable with euro 2004 in terms of excitement (12-11 into last round). E-sports as a spectator event can work. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
