Fair enough, just seems a little silly to use round difference to seed teams when most of the wins were by large margins, and almost no games were played out for the whole 30 rounds :) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Don't think you quite understood the point I was making :) What reason is there to make 2 teams who qualified from the same group play each other in a single elimination format? CAution and UniCon both had 3 wins each - it would have made more sense IMO to have CAution vs Boheem and UniCon vs e-TONK in the semi-finals. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

The fixtures for the final games had been laid out before the teams had played their groups. With P1 and P2 going straight into the respective semi-finals and the remaining four setup for the quarter finals as P3 v P5 and P4 v P6.
From this point either of the teams could have won their QF and in this case P4 beat P6 as would be expected, P3 however lost to P5, this then left P4 v P1 and P5 v P2.
As a note about the seeding, CAution! were the top performing team and received the highest seed from the group stage. This meant that they then had to win just one game to guarantee a place in the final. Teem.Boheem received a low seed and had to play two games against higher seeded opponents to reach the final but the extra playing time gained on the way would probably have helped them be more prepared when the final arrived.
Back to the main point, the actual teams which would qualify in the various positions was not known when the fixtures were created. We could not control how people qualified, such as e-TONK who came in higher than Teem.Boheem because of their unusual record of two draws and one win.
If UniCon and Teem.Boheem had reached a draw in their group game, both would have seeded higher in the tables - with a draw and two wins each - and the rounds lost in the other two games would have been the only remaining decider - because of the 16 rounds win rule and no overtime - the rounds won would be identical.
This can be best illustrated by example, a quick adjustment of the figures based on this one game gives us the following top four instead.
P1: CAution! 3/0/0/48/6/9
P2: SUDDO.GAMER 2/1/0/47/22/8
P3: UniCon 2/1/0/47/24/8
P4: Team.Boheem 2/1/0/47/27/8
With this arrangement UniCon and CAution! would have met at the SF and a final with uC and T.B would have been a possible outcome. A surprising twist here as the performance of SUDDO.GAMER would have been better than both UniCon and Teem.Boheem.
Had we told UniCon to ease up and only shoot them in the legs after 15 rounds then maybe we could have determined the outcome?
This also is pretty impossible to guarantee as the following possible scenario shows. Had Moofins and CAution! reached a draw in their group A game, not an unlikely event considering their other results in the group, the following top four would have been the amazing result.
P1: Moofins 2/1/0/47/19/8
P2: CAution! 2/1/0/47/21/8
P3: SUDDO.GAMER 2/1/0/47/22/8
P4: UniCon 2/1/0/47/24/8
With this interesting arrangement leaving Moofins clearly the top performing team losing the least rounds overall. Also five of the top six teams now have identical records in terms of Wins/Losses/Draws and Rounds Won.
In the unlikely but possible outcome of any of these teams having lost the same rounds as well, we would have played a short tiebreaker game using overtime rules.
As you can see just one or two different results will vastly change the look of the final table and therefore we cannot avoid teams playing someone they have played, it is dependant on a number of factors. They will however be seeded fairly, with their performances on the day determining the games they then have to play to win the competition.
I probably should have written a column instead of a comment but nvm. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

In the case of this competition, two points for a draw and three for a win makes two draws worth more than a win. With your suggested one point system the following qualification table would have been produced. It would not have affected the actual teams which qualified.
P1: CAution! 3/0/0/48/6/9
P2: UniCon 3/0/0/48/15/9
P3: SUDDO.GAMER 2/1/0/47/22/7
P4: Team.Boheem 2/0/1/38/28/6
P5: Moofins 2/0/1/32/20/6
P6: e-TONK 1/2/0/46/33/5
Using this scoring system, e-TONK would have been the lowest seed for the knockout stage. Note a draw is now worth just one-third of a win making it much less attractive, while still being better than losing a game.
Another option would be a 2/1 points system, making two draws the same as one win. This would be somewhere in between the other two systems, producing the following results.
P1: CAution! 3/0/0/48/6/6
P2: UniCon 3/0/0/48/15/6
P3: SUDDO.GAMER 2/1/0/47/22/5
P4: e-TONK 1/2/0/46/33/4
P5: Team.Boheem 2/0/1/38/28/4
P6: Moofins 2/0/1/32/20/4
e-TONK still gain a higher place because they have won more rounds despite having the same points as both the lower teams. However the rounds would become more important as the difference in points between winning/losing/drawing are now much less.
Some sports leagues award 3/2/1 for a win/score draw/no-score draw to encourage action in the games, it being better to get 1 and concede 1 than to never score or lose a goal. In CounterStrike it is impossible to have a no-score draw however other scoring systems could be used which might award points for bombs planted/defused or other such complicated schemes.
