UKTerrorist 2003 LAN Championships

This event will be a 6-month LAN competition run by UKTerrorist with assitance from the VGA and will be open to all gaming clans. The campaign will begin on Saturday 22nd February at the IT Centre in Northampton (venue of the CPL tournaments) and at the end of each subsequent month. This will be an 8 - 16 team LAN tournament and will take place at various VGA gaming centres across the country. Teams will be rewarded by points rather than physical prizes for their final positions at these events.

The point structure is as follows:

1st place = 12 points
2nd place = 8 points
3rd place = 6 points
4th place = 5 points
5th/6th = 4 points
7th/8th place = 3 points
9th - 12th place = 2 points
13th - 16th place = 1 point

At the end of the first 6-month season, the 6 highest scoring teams will be invited to attend the special event: Secondary Strike 2003 where they will join the top 2 winners of the VGA LAN leagues. These 8 teams will battle it out for a £2,500 cash first prize. There will be smaller cash prizes for all other teams.

This tournament has been created due to overwhelming demand and support from UKT members who strive for regular LAN events. This we hope will provide much needed experience for UK online clans to become better LAN players for the main tournaments that are being held this year, including the World Cyber Games and CPL. We chose the VGA to run this event as they are the most experienced and respected LAN tournament organisers in the UK. The LAN tournaments will be managed by Myers from UKT with support from the usual team of Sujoy and Dom from the VGA, along with new recruit Kevin Gibson (thekev), who joined the VGA at Christmas. Some of the regular UKT crew will also be there to assist in the organisation and admin of the tournaments.

All events are on a first come first served basis and cost £15 per player. This provides access to the gaming centre for the entire day. All events will be well covered by shoutcast and HLTV, as with all VGA managed events.

You may notice that we have not opted to source a sponsor for this 6 month campaign, the reason is that we are trying to keep true to the requests from members as to why they wanted these events. It is for clans to get together, practice and meet in a friendly, challenging atmosphere without the need for corporates to get involved. This is why the prize money is as high as other competitions, instead the emphasis is on practice and socialising. This is to promote gaming, not a sponsor.

We hope this tournament helps UK clans in their participation at European and Worldwide Tournaments.
