Following on from the previous UKT lans, here we have provided you, the budding gamers, with an insight to the upcoming UKT#3 LAN at Northampton. Thanks to St_George + Antmoo for helping me out. So without any further ado...

I caught up with Harriman and asked him about the upcoming event:

Recently long standing 4K member Lucking went inactive and in his place you recruited ShaQ. How easily has he integrated with the rest of the team, and will this affect your style of play at all?

ShaQ is fitting in really well since joining not so long ago, he's showing he's a very good player and has added depth to our team in lots of ways, and although it was quite a shock to everyone that we took him I personally find it hard to see why. It's always hard at your first LAN with a new team, my first LAN with I-eS I played pretty awful, but I think ShaQ will prove a lot of people wrong here.

After a disappointing finish at Clikarena, are you happy with your preparation for this event?

Well we changed our team as you probably know not too long ago, and we've been trying to hard to get things sorted, I wouldn't say were as prepared as we can be, but let's hope what we have done will be enough.

At UKT3 there will be a mixture of MR12 and MR15, do you have a particular preference?

I'm not sure what we prefer as a team, personally I prefer MR15 as obviously the games last longer, and it makes the game less based around just the pistol rounds.

With the absence of omg! and Last Chance, and with ONE absent from a LAN event since the Intel Masters, are you confident that you can live up to your seeding?

Obviously we're going hoping to win, and to win we have to beat everyone anyway, I'm not sure how much practice ONE have been doing but I'm guessing they will be in good shape and should be a worthy contender. With no omg!/lc I guess other teams to watch out for could be ui/xtra.

Prediction:

4Kings have dominated the UK CS scene for a while now, being unbeaten on LAN since Primary Strike 2002 over a year ago. For most of that time they have had the same core squad with the only changes being the removal of DArtaganan and the addition of Migotti. However recently long standing member Lucking went inactive resulting in the recruitment of ShaQ, a top player who has performed well at the last two UKT lans with disturbed and omg! respectively. If 4K were to be beaten, now would be the time to do it, but without omg! or Last Chance present it seems unlikely to happen. I believe that 4K will win the event, but perhaps not in the comfort they usually do.

I spoke to Righteous about ONE and UKT3:

First off how well prepared are ONE for this event?

We didn't boot camp this time round, we are saving that for WCG, but we have been pcwing as normal, so we are pretty well prepared. Of course I'd like another month of games but that's not happening :P.

With a few roster changes since the last LAN you attended are you confident that you can live up to your seeding?

Yes I think we will, team is always getting stronger.

At UKT3 there will be a mixture of MR12 and MR15, do you have a particular preference?

We are going to practice MR15 tonight and tomorrow hopefully, I'd probably prefer MR12 purely because I'm so used to it, although MR15 wouldn't make the pistol rounds mean so much.

ONE play pro-gamer in their first match and then play the winner of o:i and SCEE, do they pose a challenge to ONE or do you see yourselves winning comfortably?

I'm never one for being big headed just always quietly confident, so I will play it safe and say we should win but not sure about with ease.

Prediction:

ONE have been absent from all major UK LAN events this year, and unfortunately had to pull out of going to Clikarene due to lack of sponsorship. For a long time clan ONE have been - somewhat ironically - no.2. However with the recent good form of clans like omg!, Last Chance and xtra, they will be hard pressed to retain they title without a solid performance at Northampton. Righteous seems to believe they can and I'm inclined to believe him, although I'm not sure if they have what it takes to beat 4K but definitely a top 3 finish.

How well have Uninspired prepared for this event?

The only preparation we've done is play a few pcw's, get caned by people we'd crush on LAN and curse the existence of CS

Which teams do you think you can't beat if you face them?

4K, what can I say, they'll mash us, ONE I think will come a close second, but I don't really see any other teams in that list beating us if we play well.

Prediction:

Uninspired have a strong team and have experienced varying success on LAN, their highlights being defeating 4K at PS2002 and taking top French team GoodGame to overtime at the winter CPL qualifiers. Having folded around March 2002 they reformed before the WCG qualifiers and performed well on the day finishing 4th and pushed ONE to their breaking point (11-1, 0-12 anyone?). However not much has been heard of them in 2003 apart from an appearance at UKT1 and I think most people are uncertain what to expect from them. They have the potential to cause ONE and Xtra problems but seem unlikely to worry 4K. A top 4 finish if they can perform on the day.

With a few new members in the line-up, how well prepared are you for this event?

We're pretty well prepared, we've managed to sort out tactics for more maps than last time, but we haven't fine tuned certain maps as much as we had for last event.

You're seeded 4th for the event, do you feel this is accurate or do you see yourselves pushing ONE / ui for the top 3 and perhaps even 4K?

Hmm I'm not sure, 4th is about right, although I would have liked to have seen us seeded 3rd really.

At UKT3 there will be a mixture of MR12 and MR15, do you have a particular preference?

MR15, I'm about the worst user of pistols in world.

You play GltC in your first match and then the winner of fl.e & OJs, how confident are you about these matches?

We're confident yeah, and we're definitely looking forward to the 4K game on aztec afterwards.

Aiming to get more than 8 rounds?

No point hoping for less, its a map we feel anyone can beat anyone on.

Prediction:

Xtra had an average performance at the UKT 1 finishing 7/8th and most notably taking 8 rounds of 4K. With an almost completely different line-up they attended UKT 2 and impressed everyone, managing to defeat the eventual winners omg! before going on to finish 3rd. Since then they have lost duck and replaced him with AdY and akuji, and have experienced some good wins online in both the CSGN and Savage leagues. If they can repeat the skill they showed last time I don't see why they cant beat ONE and ui and clinch a 2nd place finish. However I don't see them taking down 4K just yet.

How well prepared are OJs for this event?

Prepared? The team is kind of put together at the last minute but most of us have played together as a team in the past so we shouldn't do too bad, going to get some praccy in before the event if we can.

You're seeded at 5th, do you feel this is accurate or do you think you can better this?

I think around the same as our seed, 5th, would be quite good, although I'm hoping we can cause an upset or two, you never know what can happen on the day :)

Prediction:

OJs is seen as a merc team through and through, and although the team play may be lacking they certainly have enough individual skill. I don't think they will cause any of the top 3 and problems but will certainly be challengers for the top 6 spots and may well cause an upset if things go their way.

Your first match is against the mighty Kirby-eSports, how confident do you feel about this match?

Well, teppum, duck, saph and wicked and ripper are good so I think they'll win but our tag is more original and better, so on the basis of tags, we win - that's the only thing we'll win though!! :]

Prediction:

fcc attended their first competitive LAN with UKT1 and despite a shaky start managed to perform averagely on LAN. This time however necroboy has flown over and the team have had a useful boot camp together the last few days and I can see it paying off for them. I doubt they'd be pushing for the top 3 but stand a good chance of giving OJs and o:I a good game finishing either side of the top 6.

How well prepared is o:i for this event?

Not as well as other clans from what I've heard (I mean more than 1 day boot camping just kills me) but we managed to get some good practise in at #unicon our local lan centre in Manchester.

Do you have any specific goals for the tournament or are you just hoping to meet/better your seeding?

As it's only our second LAN (first being cpl quals and very tough) we just hoping to shut a few people up and show that we can play as good/better than we do online and hopefully do better than our seeding.

At UKT3 there will be a mixture of MR12 and MR15, do you have a particular preference?

There's less pressure on MR15, pistols aren't as tense which I do like as people spend a lot of time praccing the pistol tactics etc. but really I'm not too fussed either way :)

You play SCEE in your first match, confident?

Yup :)

Prediction:

Optical Illusion have a solid line-up and have experienced varying success online, but it remains to be seen whether they can transpose this onto LAN. I have a feeling that their lack of competitive LAN experience may well let them down but I could see them causing a few upsets and I see the fighting they're way into the top 8 at least.

We're not really there to win, me and sumit are there to rape J

I don't really care, MR15 just means there going to get more of a raping.

You play Conclusive in you first match, how confident do you feel about this match?

I'm not quite sure who they are, still, anything can happen, but remember we're there for the domination.

Prediction:

SO19 are seeded fairly highly at 8th and I think that they'll struggle to meet that without good mix of individual skill and team work. They might give OJs and fcc a good game but I see them scrapping it out with some of the lower clans in the bottom 6.

How well do you feel you have prepared for the event?

We practiced pretty well and have had the same nucleus since ukt1. However, fez dropping out last minute which has obviously hampered our preparation.

Do you hope to meet/better the seeding you have been given?

Well we've been seeded pretty higher than expected and had we had our first choice team out then we'd expect to as least meet our seeding. Hopefully, we can still achieve this without fez.

At UKT3 there will be a mixture of MR12 and MR15, do you have a particular preference?

Nope

How do you feel about your first match?

We had OJs, 4K and iM and finally the dice has thrown us so19, though we are underdogs I'm sure we'll give them a good game.

Prediction:

Conclusive are seeded 9th and I think they will be hard pressed to meet this with there being not much difference between the bottom 6 skill-wise but they will be hard pressed to go any higher than 8th at the most.

How well prepared are SCEE for this event?

We are not prepared at all for this event, most of my time has been trying to get a team at all to go. The timing is really bad, as most of my first team are on exams. Not just this event but all online comps swell have been affected. I'd say the last few weeks our play has dropped, bad timing but shit happens.

At UKT3 there will be a mixture of MR12 and MR15, do you have a particular preference?

I'd prefer MR 12 all the way, I'll guarantee that after 12 rounds on the MR15 maps, at least 3 of SCEE will switch teams :)

Any specific goals for the event?

Specific goals would be to see potential, not make to many mistakes and get a couple of wins. Personal goals, I want to see a few people cry.

Finally, this time you are without FELLA's calves for company will this affect your style of play at all?

FELLA won't be playing for SCEE as he's shite and the quality of teams present are to good for the old SCEE LAN teams. We used to go for a laff, now we're going pro!! (honestly). As for effecting our style of play, I think Fred will attract the same amount of GAY attention as FELLA's thighs did, so nope.

Any final words?

Personally I wish we could have had a stronger team and more preparation but exams come first though, I haven't asked the lads to play if they have to study, it's just not that important. We'll see how it goes on the day, we could surprise a few or continue SCEE tradition and be very average, but at least we attend LAN!

Prediction:

SCEE have been around for a while now and on their day out can give some top teams a good game. However, as DK says, their team isn't their strongest and without much preparation I see SCEE finishing in the bottom 6.

How well prepared are K-eS for this event?

By bringing in Teppum and duck late we've only managed to practice 2 maps, so not very.

W1cked had this to say: "It's hard practising when you play clans who think there amazing, and whine like c**ks blaming configing when they get owned, when there actually all f**king dog s**t, and will be just as bad on lan *cough* OJS *cough*"

Are you happy with your seeding, or are you confident you will place higher on the day?

I was happy with it to begin with, and seen as though we're really just a merc team I cant complain, with the team as it is at the moment I think we could give plenty of teams above us a run for their money.

At UKT3 there will be a mixture of MR12 and MR15, do you have a particular preference?

MR15 as you get more for your money ;)

Your first match is against fcc, who famously lost in the first round to maim at UKT2, how confident are you in repeating this?

Poog knows the PRESSURE is on, he's scared, their vulnerable, they know we're after them, they don't wanna lose to us, THE PRESSURE'S ON POOG CAN YOU HANDLE IT!? we hope to win :D

Any specific goals for the event?

Hopefully: win, realistically: runners-up

Prediction:

K-eS have a strong line-up but with duck and teppum joining only a few days ago and with their lack of practice could be their undoing. But you have to feel if things go their way they could well make the top 6 but they do face a difficult route and without any solid team-play seem unlikely to trouble the top 3.

Not as well as we would have liked, we've had to bring in a player to cover my place due to work commitments. But that aside, the lads have been working hard.

The seeding is pretty fair considering we've never attended a LAN before, but hopefully we can prove we are better than what we have been given.

With graham (obi) being in our opponents team, the only option is to hate them. WATCH IT GRAHAM, PATS COMING.

Prediction:

This is fl.e's first LAN and with a new player recently added it will be a good experience but I cant see them troubling the top 6 but will be fighting it out for the top half of the bottom 6.

How well prepared are GLtC for this event?

Well, people aren't rating our chances particularly high. We've put in a fair share of hours and things are slowly piecing together, though whether its quick enough in time for the event we shall see.

Are you happy with your seeding do you have any specific goals?

(Dev) We are seeded 13th, which for us in my opinion is fair. The top 4 and bottom 4 seem pretty spot on but the middle order has been handed badly. I think the people doing the seeds need to listen to each other and discuss them more. It might be an idea to not release them until a few days before, saves the bickering.

(Hotteh) Yes, were aiming to better our seed and generally just have a decent afternoon's gaming.

At UKT3 there will be a mixture of MR12 and MR15, do you have a particular preference?

MR12 puts a big emphasis on pistol rounds and the victory thereof. Playing at this level, and as an almost mix-team, its nice to be able to recover from a pistol round loss. We shall see.

You play Xtra in the first round, who impressed everyone at UKT2, how confident are you about this match?

Not very. Having beaten last chance in a convincing 21-3 in the savage league the other night, we're somewhat dreading it. But we have a secret weapon : a combination of mind altering amounts of caffeine, and the odd heroic act.

Prediction:

GltC's teamwork may be coming into place but they lack the LAN experience to trouble any of the top clans. I see them battling it out with fl.e and SCEE in the bottom 6.

How well have you prepared for UKT3?

Not well enough, we lanned last weekend and we was hoping to practice loads, it would take an hour before getting a decent match, so we ended up giving up, we also had CSGN game that night, we'll try our best though.

Do you have any specific goals or do you just hope to better your seeding?

We hope to better it yes, I don't think it would be very hard to actually meet our seed.

At UKT3 there will be a mixture of MR12 and MR15, do you have a particular preference?

MR15 is great cos you get to adapt to the oppositions tactics, I'd prefer mr15, but I guess cos of time restrictions its not possible.

You play uninspired in your first match, how do you feel about this?

ui to me are one of best teams in country, so wont be easy, should be a tough game for us, depending on who's going for them, but we'll try our best.

Prediction:

Twisted:Reality have been around for a long time now and have plenty of experience but they've got a tough first game against ui and it seems they will get knocked to the lower bracket early on most likely finishing up in the bottom 6.

Pretty good this time actually, we managed to boot camp last weekend in Bristol.

Any specific goals for the event or do you just hope to better your seeding?

Just hope to do much better than our seed really.

At UKT3 there will be a mixture of MR12 and MR15, do you have a particular preference?

MR15 although I understand the difficulty of running a tournament to time, and if it was a preference between a 2 day tourney and MR 12 then I would say MR12 due to the expense of staying overnight.

Your first match is against ONE, how to you feel about this?

Well normally there would be no chance for us, but ONE have not been to many lans recently and so it could be interesting.

Prediction:

Pro-gamer have attended many LANs and are no stranger to the UKT events, and with some solid practice behind they may give the lesser seeds a good run for their money, but I cant see them climbing out of the bottom 6.

How well have you prepared for this event?

We have been practising for the past 2 weeks on all the maps featured at UKT. we have comfortable tactics on them at the moment with some extra training at xessions lan tomorrow. So i say we have prepared very well. Having a team that is also going to actually attend this lan helps too, unlike the savage lan :(

Any specific goals for the event or do you just hope to better your seeding?

Well we are seeded 16th, so i think we can comfortably meet it. A lot of people have doubts about us. but i can see us getting 10th seed quite comfortably. :)

At UKT3 there will be a mixture of MR12 and MR15, do you have a particular preference?

I personally prefer maxround12, due to the pistol round being an important round. Haven't played many maxround15 games at the moment but I'm sure we will in the future.

Your play 4K first, are you looking forward to it?

It will be a good experience for us, but I can see us getting our assholes loosened. I've already told the lads to bring a pot of vaseline for the game :)

Prediction:

Angel Gamers are the outsiders at this event, with this their first LAN, already famous for the no-show at the savLAN. They seemed to have practiced hard though but with a hard match against 4K first they'll enter the lower bracket early on. If they perform well then I can see them perhaps making 7-10th but no higher.
