UKT Bath Interviews & Predictions

I decided to look ahead to the upcoming UKT LAN #2, being held in Bath. As part of my preview I talked to a member from each of the 12 competing clans, and asked them a few questions.

My name is Tim Harrison, I am 20, I started out in UNION back in beta 1 days moved through several clans including d0h, numbers, -m4- and UKLA , I have been to a number of cpl events mainly holland and london and I am now part clan leader of lastchance.

How well prepared are Last Chance for this event?

Hmm. I would like to be a lot more prepared but we've had some team problems and are just getting our pcw shedule back on track, I believe well be as ready as anyone come ukt.

Last Chance were seeded 2nd for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

I think it's pretty accurate, I know if my team are all on form we can overcome anyone thats going to be there but I'd settle for 2nd. I know OMG! are going to be strong at this event, Im not sure if they'll have had time to incorportate their new players fully but im sure they'll amaze people as usual.

Last Chance will meet the winner of gltc -vs- Forsaken in your first match, how much do you know and how do you rate possible opponents?

Well, this is a sore spot for us, due to getting our only loss in BWCSL against gltc we feel we have something to prove, forsaken I dont really know much about so we shall see, I'd just like to say gltc are a good bunch of lads, cant wait to shake hands but I know I'll be gunning for them in the match if we play them (no 2000 ping this time :) )

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think Last Chance will finish at this event?

Ideally 1st, having a close match with OMG should be a thriller if we get that far, realistically I think probably 3rd as some of our team dont have much competitive lan experience and we havent been to many lans together, I know the last ukt I was shivering and shaking like peodophile in a nusery cupboard, but hopefully this time nerve wont play as much of part :)

What do you think the top 3 will be in the final standings?

My Educated guess would be 1st. OMG 2nd. Barcodes 3rd last chance

My Comment:

With the arrival of m0rph last chance have managed to improve their line up that one step further, and no doubt the experence he has will aid them greatly, although there is no way of telling how well he has fitted into the team and how much practise they have had and will manage before the big day. Although Stannly plays down lc's chances, there's a definate top 6 finish for lc,I think a second place finish could be on the cards.

I spoke to RtG about the upcoming UKT event:

Hi there, in true interview fashion please tell us about your self, as well as a bit about your clan history.

I'm Rob, I'm 23 and work in IT in the city for one of the banks. GLtC is *I think* the oldest current UK clan, maybe 4K can match us on that but we're one of the original clans from wireplay. We've played in pretty much all the UK online competitions and recently we've been trying to get into some LAN competitions.

How well prepared are Gun Lovin Tactical Criminals for this event?

We played quite poorly at the last UKT, we didn't really know what to expect and most of us didn't bring our own mousemats, headphones etc so hopefully for the Bath event we'll at least not be putting ourselves at a disadvantage before we start playing. Some of the team have played at Bath previously to get a bit more lan practice in and fingers crossed if I can find someone to play instead of me we're hoping to put in some performances more often. I'm not very good at the moment in case that wasn't obvious ;)

GLTC are seeded 7th for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

I'd say it was about right going on our net form, I think we'll justify that seeding.

GLTC play Forsaken in your first match, how much do you know about Forsaken and how do you rate your first opponent?

We've played forsaken quite a few times, our last match was in the ECSL last week I think we won quite well. They seem to be a good team though and have beaten us in the past so I expect the game to be close.

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think GLTC will finish at this event?

I'd like us to beat Forsaken and if I remember correctly that would lead to us playing LastChance on aztec for the second game. We'll obviously be underdogs for that game but I think we've still got a chance. Anyway, I'd like us to go one better than last time and get 2 wins minimum and if the draw is kind to us who knows.

What do you think the top 3 will be in the final standings?

Hmmm toughie this one. 1. OMG - 2. Last Chance - 3. Xtra.uk as I was very impressed by them at the last event.

My Comment:

I can see gltc beating Forsaken and meeting Last Chance, but I'd be lying if I said I thought gltc will put up too much of a fight against them. Bottom 6 for them, probably just missing out on the points.

Headshot^Man spared me a few minutes to answer some questions:

Hi there, in true interview fashion please tell us about your self, as well as a bit about your clan history.

I'm headshotman, played for lt-uk/uR/fcc, fcc formed in August of 1999, so a long standing clan thats had a few changes, but probably at the best skill wise that they've had over all that time.

How well prepared are FightClubClan for this event?

I would say we are not as well prepared as I had hoped, with Necroboy not coming over from Denmark, this means Hairy will be playing, and as he has been busy with football and 'life' he hasn't played a match with us for a few weeks, and is a little out of touch tactics wise.

FightClubClan are seeded 6th for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

No, I don't feel this is accurate, we have no LAN background, and none of our players have ever appeared at a major LAN event as part of a prepared team, and so the seeding was generous to say the least.

FightClubClan play Maim in your first match, how much do you know about maim and how do you rate your first opponent?

Online we have managed high margin victories over them, be it only practises, but I'm confident we can get through the 1st stage.We dont know much about them in terms of lineup or anything, so who knows.

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think FightClubClan will finish at this event?

Ideally, nothing but winning would be acceptable to me. Realistically, we must show that we are a competitive team in this uk scene, and so strong performances, and a top 4 finish would be acceptable. We do not come across to people as a very serious clan, and this is something that must change :]

What do you think the top 3 will be in the final standings?

Well, with omg adding shaq and geo I think they have lost that edge that vip and m0rph gave them, they are good players and will do a good job, but I can only see them finishing 2nd, behind probably last chance, who I am sure will have prepared intensly for this event. As for 3rd, I am hoping it will be a battle between ourselves, barcodes and iM, it wouldn't be to bad losing to friends such as barcodes and danny park the legend :]

My Comment:

FCC have been around a while, without ever really impressing. Obviously now they wish to be seen in a different light, and Headshot^Man fancies them to scrap it out for 3rd place. Sorry Heddy, it's gonna be low top 6th place for FCC.

Hi, I'm Offspr1ng I've played CS since 5.2 and been cl of maim since 6.0. Maim is a reasonably old clan, but we are new to lan competition so looking forward to getting some experience at UKT :)

How well prepared are Maim for this event?

Right now we aren't too well prepared, but we'll pcw a lot these next week so we should be reasonably well prepared by the 26th.

Maim are seeded 11th for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

Yeah, I don't have any complaints with that, I dont think anyone knows how good the bottom 4 or so seeds will be on lan

Maim play FCC in your first match, how much do you know about FCC and how do you rate your first opponent?

It's on LAN so we'll spank 'em. Nah, FCC are a quality clan, we've played them a few times and only beaten them once so it will be a tough match. They have beaten ui on LAN so we will have to play very well to beat them.

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think Maim will finish at this event?

Ideally: 1st, with me knifing song in the final seconds of the 24th round of the final. Realistically: I'd like to make sure we do better than our seeding and take it from there.

In the final standings, who do you think will be first, second and third?

lc, omg, iM respectively

My Comment:

n3m usually impresses online and maim will be hoping the same is true on LAN. maim aren't the most skillful of teams so they should be hoping their teamwork carries them through the tournament, however maim operate a huge squad and it's hard to imagine the lineup for this LAN playing together very many times at all beforehand. I imagine this is nothing more than a day out for maim, who I predict will be one of the first teams to crash out. Low bottom 6, perhaps last.

Hi I'm Craig "b33p" Morton and am a 18 year old gamer playing for clan Barcodes. Barcodes have been around a couple of years now, mostly playing for some good fun and trying not to take things too seriously, often enough you will find most of our members at the bar at LANs.

How well prepared are Barcodes for this event?

Not as much as we could be, it's a new team and we're still trying to get some of the bugs ironed out in our match play.

Barcodes are seeded 4th for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

I think we should have been seeded lower than 4th, and would be very happy if we did actually finish in that place.

Barcodes will meet the winner of Xtra.uk -vs- Pummelhorse UK in your first match, how much do you know and how do you rate your possible opponents?

I dont know too much about these guys, Xtra are all oldskool wp/by players and would expect them to be a very tough team and also phuk could be an underdog threat, even though they are seeded last they seem to think that they will perform well at UKT.

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think Barcodes will finish at this event? I would be happy if we finished in 5th position.

What do you think the top 3 will be in the final standings?

1st. lc 2nd omg!(only because it's a new team though) 3rd. fcc.

My Comment:

Barcodes are a very decent team who should provide tough opposition to anyone on the day. I seriously doubt their ability to go 'all-the-way', but around 3rd place would suit them well I think, although I'm certain there will be a few teams who will attempt to push them down and out of this. Top 6.

Forsaken

Atemi gave me the low down on Forsaken

Hi there, in true interview fashion please tell us about your self, as well as a bit about your clan history.

My name is Andy Buckley and started playing CS back at beta 6.1 I think with Silva and Shaq as we were all in school together, I have been CL of this clan ever since then although we had had a few other names and countless numbers of players but its always been me and Silva from the start, but now we have got what we think is a decent settled team and plan to stay together and start playing at a few LANs like UKT.

How well prepared are Forsaken for this event?

We planned to pcw and do tactics for the maps we haven't yet done starting last week but with work commitments and countless other problems has meant we havent yet really started to prepare although I hope this week we will get some tactics done on Aztec and Inferno.

Forsaken are seeded 10th for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

Yeah I'd say so, we did well at i15 considering it was our first lan, but we didnt have too many tough games as some of the good teams went out early and it's i15 aint it, so it's hardly the most competitivie of lan events these days, also we haven't really done alot online yet so yeah, I'd say 10th is about right.

Forsaken play gltc in your first match, how much do you know about GLTC and how do you rate your first opponent?

We have played them twice recently in ecsl, first time we won reasonably comfortably on Nuke which we feel is one of our good maps then 2nd time we played them on cobble, which is probably our worst as I dont recall ever winning an official match on it.We just suck on it and it was the reason we went out of the open cup cause we got hammered on it, so I'd say it could go either way cos I dont know how good they are on dust2, and it depends on who has put in the most preperation for the event and of course who gets the luck on the day.

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think Forsaken will finish at this event?

We ain't going there to win it but I'd be very pleased if we got to play 4 games and probably a little dissapointed if we only got to play 2, but it will all depend on how much practice we get in between now and the event.

What do you think the top 3 will be in the final standings?

I'd say omg and lc are the best 2 teams there and I'd normally say omg, but with their new team you have to wonder how much practice they have got in, where as last chance will be stronger than last time so I think it will be lc omg final probably omg winning and then imminent in 3rd as they always seem to perform reasonably well on LAN.

My Comment:

Forsaken have been around a bit under different names, but they are still very inexpereniced on LAN. They are obviously looking to impress, and hope to do a number on gltc, which should be a tight and exciting game. In the end I think gltc will pip them for it, and forsaken will stumble to a bottom six finish, probably not bettering thier 10th place seed.

My name's Clinton McCutcheon, aka Sarge, been playing the game since New years day 2000 when my cousin got me into it, it was the 1st game and pretty much only game I've played online. Past clans were [SG1-uk],[dOh] and LR, a team a year, not bad? :D

How well prepared are OMG! for this event?

Hmmm, at this point, no where near where we would like to be, but our main goal is WCG. Greg has been on holiday for the past week so that didn't help, but we'll get as many pcw's in this week as possible which should be more than enough considering 4K + ONE aren't going :)

OMG! are seeded 1st for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

Yes :)

OMG will meet the winner of Obsessive -vs- Professional Gamer in your first match, how much do you know about them how do you rate your possible opponents?

I know very little about both team's current line-ups, so I can't really say if they're going to be any competition or not, we will just concentrate on our game rather than worrying about "if the other teams going to be any good".

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think OMG! will finish at this event?

Ideally, obviously 1st place, another 12 points would put us top on the leader board going into the next UKT lan, realisticly, 1st place, with lc in the final I'd imagine.

What do you think the top 3 will be in the final standings?

1: omg! 2: lc 3: barcodes. Oh and shoutout to Sumit my main A reg BMW 635ci bopping mendys frequenter, simons waiting for you!

My Comment:

The 2 latest players to be added to OMG! certinaly surprised many, but I don't think this will have any bearing on this event. With OMG!'s lineup as Sarge,Bom,DArtagnan,Craig and ShaQ I can't see anyone there beating them. LastChance might put up a decent fight in the final, but I doubt they can defeat these guys. First place, cruising all the way until the final.

Hey, I'm Silicon (aka Stuart Holywell), I'm 19 and straight. I've just got back from Cardiff uni (yesturday) after not playing CS since xmas, and before then september. PHUK have been around since september, had lots of PCWs (mostly against finnish teams). We're unknown in UK Scene (website www.ph-uk.net) :)

How well prepared are Pummelhorse UK for this event?

With one of our players leaving 7 days ago, the answer is not very prepared. We've had to draft in 2 players in very short notice.

tmc0r and lewis from SO19?

We needed players they offered. I know them well since I'm in SO19.. they were keen to play at UKT Lan.

Pummelhorse UK are seeded 12th for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

Yes, we're rubbish.

Pummelhorse UK play Xtra.uk in your first match, how much do you know about Xtra.uk and how do you rate your first opponent?

Well, we try to keep up to date with the UK scene. Our main threat is TT, but everyones a threat on LAN. Anyone is capable of anything on LAN at this level.. although arguably we shouldn't be attending this LAN, I believe everyone attending can aim and can therefore is a threat.

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think Pummelhorse UK will finish at this event?

No comment.. I think everyone knows what is on the cards for us.

What do you think the top 3 will be in the final standings?

Excluding PHUK, I think the top 3 will be.. uhm.. OMG! first (of course) 2nd Barcodes maybe... 3rd LC. I don't think imminent will make top 3. (Sorry Tep).

My Comment:

The unknown ones, I think just about everyone said "who?" when they seen phuk on the attendence list, and I don't think they will manage to make a lasting impression. tmc0r and Lewis should help them along abit, but they will win them rounds not matches. Bottom 6 for them, probably one above maim into 11th place for phuk.

How well prepared are Obsessive for this event?

Well we are gonna try to put alot of time into practicing over the next week running upto the event, it's hard with it being Easter though cause alot of people are going out,

Obsessive are seeded 8th for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

There are a lot of good clans attending this time around so its quite accurate, plus I don't know how well known we are by the ppl who do the seedings, so yeah its ok with us.

Obsessive play Professional Gamer in your first match, how much do you know about Professional Gamer and how do you rate your first opponent?

I think we've played 'em a few times in the past and beat them comfortably but that was online I guess :)

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think Obsessive will finish at this event?

Ideally I would like to see us come at least 2nd, hehe, but realistically top 5 would be good enough :)

What do you think the top 3 will be in the final standings?

Well my money would be on omg! and lc will be 1st and 2nd, as for 3rd i think its pretty much open to clans such as fcc, barcodes, imminent and ourselves.

My Comment:

Xenophon seems confident Obsessive can put up a real good show in Bath, and hopefully they will. However, I think they will struggle to uproot any of the top teams form there spots. I think obs will have to pull something special out the hat to be in the points, but I predict they will be very borderline.

Hi there, in true interview fashion please tell us about your self, as well as a bit about your clan history.

I've been clan leader of Pro since the beginning, about 3 years now. Before then I played RTS and Q3.Had most sucess playing starcraft where I represented the UK in the first world cyber game challenge in Korea.

How well prepared are Professional Gamer for this event?

We had a not bad performance in the last UKT LAN considering our seeding, we were seeded last as we were the last clan to enter the day before the event. We hope to do much better this time as we have longer to prepare and the team is more settled, unfortunately the draw has not been too kind to us (OMG in 2nd round).

Professional Gamer are seeded 9th for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

Yes having looked at the clans in it I think that is fair

Professional Gamer play Obsessive in your first match, how much do you know about Obsessive and how do you rate your first opponent?

The have a very strong online presence and if the match was to be online I'd say we wouldn't stand a chance, as it is I think we have a fairly good chance as this appears to be their first lan tourney.

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think Professional Gamer will finish at this event?

Ideally we will beat obsessive and then knocked into lower bracket by OMG depends on the draw then in the lower bracket, I'd hope to go a couple of rounds in the lower bracket,

What do you think the top 3 will be in the final standings?

omg, barcodes, lastchance.

My Comment:

The re-addition of b0p to the team and the welcoming of midas for this event will add some much needed experence to pr0, but I can't see them climing out of the bottom 6, and I think they will lose against obs in their first match. This will be a sore event for pr0 I think.

I'm pretty new, TT picked me up to join this clan because I owned him on by7, played for choke before this and thats about it, only been playing cs like a year.Xtra.uk started off as xequted when tt and dh got kicked from disturbed we merged with xtra just before UKT Northampton.

How well prepared are Xtra.uk for this event?

Well its a totally new line-up from last event, only me left. TT quit cs last week so we haven't done as much praccy as I'd like but I think we're getting there.

Xtra.uk are seeded 5th for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

Yer pretty much, although we finished like 7th or 8th last event were more famous for getting 8 rounds off 4K than for actually achieving anything.

Xtra.uk play Pummelhorse UK in your first match, how much do you know and how do you rate your first opponent?

I dont know much about em at all, being new I barely know anyone in cs scene anyway, but I gather their a merc team put together just for lan with various good players from SO19 n stuff so we got no idea how good they gonna be.

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think Xtra.uk will finish at this event?

Ideally top 3, realistically top 5, it's all down to who we draw on what map I reckon. Now I've said this watch us go out after 1st 2 games tho =P

What do you think the top 3 will be in the final standings?

Err... omg lc and barcodes now imminent dropped out.

My comment:

Xtra look like they want to build on thier good performance in the last UKT lan, but with only 1 player left from that team I think it's very hard to judge. However I think they will fight all the way, and be on the borderline of the points.

Hi, I'm TeppuM, CL of imminent, currently unemployed.

How well prepared are Imminent for this event?

We've had about 3 days to do all the maps, so not very.

Imminent were seeded 3rd for this event, do you feel this was accurate?

I feel we should have been seeded above lastchance due to the points system, however they did beat us in the last event,
so it's a hard decision for the admins to make.

Imminent will meet the winner of Fcc -vs- Maim in your first match, how much do you know and how do you rate your possible opponents?

We're expecting FCC to win this game, and we havn't really looked into them to much as we've been to busy making our tactics, we'll see what happens, hopefully we'll win.

Both ideally and realistically, where do you think Imminent will finish at this event?

We're hoping to meet our seeding, if we do that we'll be pleased.

What do you think the top 3 will be in the final standings?

I can't answer that as all the top teams have new lineups.

My Comment:

Almost a completely new lineup for the team formally known as erm:cs. They will no doubt work extrememly hard to get as much practise in as possible, but I cant see them having enough to topple omg and lc. iM will be carried completely at this event by the players individual skill, which might be enough to secure a top 6 finish it won't be enough if/when they come against the "big two". Rumour was iM were due to drop out of Bath when they lost 2 players but they have taken a dramatic u-turn after they recruited unholy and kronic this week. They look a promising side again, but time is not on thier side for this one, and I think they will slip from final hopefuls to low top 6.

Final Comment:

Without ONE or 4K here, I think OMG! are going to take going to take this one. Last Chance are hot favourites to be beaten from them in the final, while Barcodes, FightClubClan, Xtra.uk, Obsessive and iM will fight and scrap with each other for 3rd to 6th. The rest will stumble at near enough the first hurdle, and I seriously doubt any of them will manage to touch the top 6. If I had to decide in order (and I guess I should), I would say:

I'm sorry if you didnt like it, but saying I know nothing about maim is laughable. Not only did I used to play for them many a moon ago, I know you have a 10 - 12 man squad and I think I've played maim 4 odd times in the last few months. I think you have fixed CT positions and a set of 3 T rushes for every map you play, which you spend 15-30 mins before games going over on your wargames.com server, which used to be a IeS/4K one. n3m usually impresses me more so than anyone else in your team. If you can do better than I said mate, good luck to you and I hope you can prove me wrong. And btw, I asked each team 7 questions in order to get there thoughts and backgrounds AS well as giving my opinion, which was only a short part of it? Cheers to everyone else though.
